Brief Overview of the Context and Province th Municipality of Munai is the 4 class in the province of Lanao del Norte. Area: 197.50 km 2 (76.26 sq mi) According to the 2015 census, it has population of 32,973 people with Population: 32,973(2015 census) 26 barangays. Income: 4th class Munai is bounded by the municipality of , Bacolod and Number of Barangays: 26 on the north, Poona on the east, Piagapo on the Main activities: Major producer of corn south, and on the west. and coconut Munai has been governed by the Sultanate before and is still bound by the rules and regulations of the Sultanate. The Center of the Munai is surrounded by mountains, which are the attraction for local tourism.

Findings

Typhoon Vinta (Tembin) hit southern on December 22 nd 2017, causing 2 landslides in Davao and Palawan before leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility on December 24 th ,2017. The municipality of Munai is one of most devastated towns in the province of Lanao del Norte.

Shelter ‹ According to DSWD 10, the total number of damage houses is of 366 totally damaged houses and 874 partially damaged. ‹ The total number of families affected is of 1,478, a total of 6,120 individuals. ‹ hall served as evacuation centre in every barangay but 4 days after the incident, affected families gradually returned to their home or have been hosted by relatives within the municipality. ‹ Affected families efforts are now focused on restoring and clearing their homes though most of their belongings cannot be retrieved anymore since the flood took everything away. ‹ Some households could repair the damages in their house by using scattered woods brought by the flood but there is no other available materials they could use to do so.

WASH

‹ The source of water of the community is the river, hand pumps and spring but these are all contaminated by the flash flood. The water from the river is still muddy as an implication of siltation. ‹ No hygiene supplies are available, the market in the affected barangays is quite far away and the access is very challenging due to damages on the roads and bridges.

Food Security and Livelihoods

‹ DSWD-10 provided food packs to 1,000 affected families, hygiene kits, and malong (wrap around cloth). This was a quick response to the needs of the affected families ‹ Local government unit of Munai utilized their resources to provide food for the affected population but cannot sustainably support the families in the long run as they believe it would take four to five months for the farmers to restore their livelihood.

Education

‹ Five schools were heavily damaged: Munai central elementary school, Matampay Primary School, Lininding Elementary School, Pendolunan Elementary School, Cadulawan Primary School. School administrators are afraid they will not be able to resume their classes by January.

Logistics ‹ Smart is the only phone network functional in the area. ‹ The bridge connecting the main town to the interior barangays was damaged. The access and delivery of assistance is very challenging. Volunteers have to work hand in hand to deliver the goods to the other side of the bridge.

Recommendations ‹ In order to fast track the delivery of assistance and services to the affected families, damaged bridges should be repaired immediately by the Department of Public Works and Highways. ‹ Continuous relief aid is necessary, NFI, water kits, and shelter repair kits. ‹ Bayanihan should restore damaged classrooms in order to resume classes by January.
