The Versys 1000 offers maximum riding enjoyment across a wide variety of road riding situations. Whether riding solo or two-up, around the corner or around the globe, this fun-to-ride road sports tourer’s unique combination of a highly responsive, ultra smooth In-Line Four engine that’s tuned for flexibility, and a nimble chassis fitted with dynamic suspension will have riders grinning in their helmets. Add in the upright riding position and you have a package that really comes into its own on twisty mountain roads or long distance riding. While not designed for off-road use, the long-travel suspension's ability to cope with NZ’s less- than-perfect road conditions allows the Versys 1000 to remain composed where bikes with stiffer, sportier set-ups would have you backing off the throttle. n late July, five of us met for the reg- ular Auckland Branch Tuesday ride. It rained heavily the previous night and showers continued through the day,I so the roads were wet and some- times slippery, and we rode with due caution. After the ride finished, I headed home, initially following a comrade but turning off alone onto the Clevedon- Takanini Road. At this point the showers had stopped and the road was dry. In fact, it was a flat, straight rural road with a good surface and little traffic. Not surprisingly, I was cruising along happily at 100km/h. Completely out of the blue, a large log bounced off my helmet. I only got a glimpse of it but it was about the same di- ameter as my helmet. A few days later I talked to someone who lives in the area and travels along that road almost every day. He said he’d seen the tree leaning a little further each day prior to my encounter with it, which bolsters my original theory that it just collapsed without warning. On the other hand, I went back myself to look at the site a week later, and the trees remain- ing seemed in poor condition with many cut stumps between, and no sign of any disturbance to the soil, which would favour the idea it was a deliberate felling gone wrong. At the branch meeting the next week, I was duly fined for the “environmental vandalism” of destroying the tree by hit- ting it with my bike!

BOOK NOW FOR WAIRARAPA NATIONAL RALLY & AGM Just a reminder to members who plan to attend the National Rally & AGM in Masterton at Wairarapa College Easter 2017. When booking your accommodation please use the old fashion method and ring the Motels. We have visited all the Motels and Camping Grounds and they will take phone bookings. A lot of them have blocked out their on-line booking pages so that they have rooms available for Ulyssians. When talking to the motels please tell them you are from Ulysses and most of them will give you a discount. There are tent and motorhome sites available at The Wairarapa College venue. These are unpowered sites but good shower and toilet facilities are available. The Wairarapa has quite a few B & B’s available so these may be an option for you. Looking forward to seeing you next year. Karen Wilson #7787, Wairarapa Co-ordinator

LEADERS ARE RRP $18,995 ATTRACTIVE. THAT’S WHY OTHERS FOLLOW THEM.

They say imitation is the best form of flattery. We’re flattered because our competitors have copied our policies almost to the letter. And that’s okay because we genuinely want the best for our competitor’s customers too.

If we were doing the copying (we never would), we would bring Riding with the leader means never having to follow the pack. something new to the table, to really shift things up a gear. But we Choose Star Insurance, the original specialist motorcycle insurance already offer the best policies at the best prices. Which brings us to provider who knows and loves bikes as much as looking after the what our competitors can’t imitate. Our originality. Our approach. needs of their owners. Our flexibility. Our team.
