Tien Chen Chou in the men’s final of the All England Open Badminton Championships. Thanks for all the feedback and comments FROM about your monthly sports magazine. We read each and every contribution. THE EDITOR Keep them coming! ith fear of coronavirus running high and whole countries being shut down, even the world of sports is not exempt. Pretty much every event has been impacted and one can only wonder at the knock- Won effect, especially when it comes to revenue and salaries. This may not be so keenly felt by sportspeople earning millions and millions of rands, but think of assistants, ground staff, marshalls and cleaners – people without fund managers and endorsement deals. In these dark times, we celebrate the Blitzboks’ consistent performances in the World Sevens Series, and remind ourselves sport will be back to normal sooner rather than later. May 2020 WHO’S THE MAN? Who: Tom Brady When and where: 3 February 2019, Atlanta, US What happened: Brady, of the New England Patriots, in action against the Los Angeles Rams during Super Bowl LIII. The 42-year-old star quarterback, considered by many to be the best in his position to date, announced in March he would leave the Patriots, where he has spent his entire 20-season NFL career. He led them to six Super Bowl titles, won four Super Bowl MVP awards and three NFL MVP awards. Despite speculation he would retire, Brady made himself a free agent when the 2019 season ended. Shortly after his announcement, news broke he would join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the new season. 4-5_club news/letters.indd 4 2020/03/23 2:31 PM CLUBNEWS TO US This is your magazine, and your WRITE SportsClub – drop us a line at FOR YOUR CHANCE TO SportsClub, PO Box 180, Howard Place, WIN 7450, or send us an email at sportsclub @tfg.co.za or [email protected], and let us know what you think.
