Groundfish (Effective January 2, 2019) The California Fish and Game Commission approved changes to recreational groundfish regulations on December 12, 2018 to conform to changes in federal rules for 2019 and 2020. Changes included new season dates and fishing depths in some groundfish management areas, a canary rockfish sub-bag limit increase to 2 fish within the RCG Complex bag limit of 10 fish, a lingcod bag limit decrease from 2 fish to 1 fish in areas south of 40°10' N latitude (near Cape Mendocino), and a return to a year-round fishery for California scorpionfish in the Southern Groundfish Management Area. See pg. 8 for ways to stay informed of in-season regulation changes. Anglers are advised to call the CDFW Groundfish Hotline at (831) 649-2801, or check the CDFW website at wildlife.ca.gov/ conservation/marine/groundfish for the most up-to-date groundfish regulations. Red Abalone Because of continued poor environmental conditions and severely depleted northern red abalone populations, the red abalone fishery closure has been extended to April 1, 2021. The Fish and Game Comission is in the process of developing a new Red Abalone Fishery Management Plan that will take into consideration recent and ongoing environmental changes. Proposed Changes in 2019 The California Fish and Game Commission is considering proposed regulatory changes that will clarify the definition of fresh water (CCR T-14 Section 1.53) and update the procedures for online catch reporting and lost report cards (CCR T-14 Section 1.74). See fgc.ca.gov/regulations. Forthcoming Supplement A supplement updating the regulations contained in this booklet will be released by May 2019. The supplement is produced
