Seller Insight

Manor Barn is located in the village of Braunston on the border of and Northamptonshire, which lies at the junction of the Grand Union and Oxford Canals. For over 150 years the village thrived on the canal trade carrying goods from the Midlands to and is affectionately known as the ‘Heart of the Waterways’. Today’s Branston is a centre for leisure activities and boasts by far and away the busiest stretch of canal in the UK. On their first visit to view Manor Barn, current owners Graeme and Pam were struck by the panoramic views over the hills; “the views are spectacular and were an instant selling point. We were also taken with the open-plan layout of the house and the huge amount of light which floods in; all in all, it’s a really fantastic barn conversion in a great location” says Graeme.

The pretty village has a good community spirit and is a social place to live, as Pam explains, “there are a good range of clubs and events including a history society, amateur dramatics, camera and film club and a wonderful annual craft fair at the church. Christmas carols by candlelight at St Peters Church on the first weekend in December is a lovely occasion and there’s a Community Café which acts as an excellent social hub”. The village also benefits from no less than four pubs, a well-stocked village shop, butcher, hairdresser and Braunston Cof E Primary School and plenty of good walking routes. Daventry, the closest town to Braunston, offers conveniences such as supermarkets, restaurants and a good sports centre, whilst nearby Weeden hosts the popular Heart of the Shires Shopping Village.

“The house and garden are set within a conservation area and have wonderful views over an expanse of countryside. The barn offers spacious living and is an excellent home for entertaining guests”.

“We particularly enjoy the living room/dining room and kitchen space for the open plan arrangement and character features”.

“The south facing garden and peaceful village location are great aspects of living here. We also value The Admiral Nelson, a local canal-side pub which always offers a warm welcome, great home cooked food, good ales and wines”

“The summer family parties we have held - the house lends itself so well to socialising between the indoor space and the garden”.

“We will miss many aspects of the house, garden and surrounding area but are planning a move to the Scottish borders to enjoy even more open countryside”.
