Director of Counseling and Wellness Services The 2020-2021

The Hun School of Princeton seeks a dynamic and creative Director of Counseling and Wellness Services for a position beginning in August 2020. This administrative position working directly with the Upper and Middle School Heads will lead our counseling department in developing and administering student support services including individual student counseling, health/wellness education, and character education programming for the Middle and Upper Schools.

Responsibilities: ● Leading the counseling team in offering individual counseling services to all students including partnership and communication with parents and mental health professionals in supporting student well-being. ● Leading and implementing the School’s Health and Wellness curriculum including the design and implementation of school-wide wellness and character education programs and supervision of the Health and Wellness Department faculty. ● Coordinating and implementing parent programs in student wellness and character education including representing Counseling and Wellness Services in open house and parent programs and with professional organizations. ● Providing consultation to parents, faculty and administration on student social/emotional concerns and offering professional development opportunities for faculty in adolescent development and support. ● Managing Student Support Team meetings including all school counselors, Upper School Grade Level Deans, and individual teachers, the Academic Learning Center, and the school nurse when appropriate. ● Serving as an Upper School counselor and Health and Wellness educator. ● Serving as a member of the Upper School Council and the Academic Leadership Team. ● Ideally, the Director of Counseling and Wellness Services will live on campus and participate fully in the campus residential life program. The Hun School of Princeton will provide housing.

Qualifications:

● A master’s degree, preferably in school counseling or a related field; ● Background in counseling students at the middle school and secondary school levels. National or state certifications preferred; ● Effective skills of leadership, administration, communication, and organization; ● Familiarity with current trends in education; ● A love for working with young people; ● A commitment to a diverse and inclusive community; ● A passion for working in an innovative, experiential, and student-centered environment; ● Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff; ● Personal qualities including resilience, approachability, and kindness; ● A desire to contribute to school life outside of the classroom on a lively campus.

Our environment: The working environment is an office and school environment on a hilly 50-acre campus in Princeton, New Jersey. The abilities to occasionally move equipment, walk up and down stairs, attend meetings in varying locations throughout campus, and continually use computers and related office equipment are required. Not all buildings on campus have elevators.
