Florida welcomes nearly 600 newborns every day and is home to more than one million children younger than five. Of these, approximately 600,000 attend some type of early learning program. With so many of our children in care, quality early learning options are a high priority because children are counting on us to make sure they have every advantage and opportunity available for success in school and in life.
Early Learning, child care, day care, preschool, early education ± these are all terms that are used to describe programs that provide early care and education for children outside of their home. We know that children are actively learning wherever they are ± at home, in early learning programs, and communities. Parents are undeniably their children¶VILUVWDQG most important teachers. With this in mind, we work hard to maintain DTXDOLW\HDUO\OHDUQLQJV\VWHPZLWKSURJUDPVWKDWUHVSHFWIDPLOLHV¶LQGLYLGXDOQHHGV
7KH$JHQF\IRU:RUNIRUFH,QQRYDWLRQ¶VOffice of Early Learning administers the school readiness program, the Child Care Resource & Referral program and the operational requirements of the Voluntary Prekindergarten program. Early learning programs LQFUHDVHFKLOGUHQ¶VFKDQFHVRIDFKLHYLQJIXWXUHHGXFDWLRQDOVXFFHVVDQGEHFRPLQJ productive members of society.
)ORULGD¶VHDUO\OHDUQLQJSURJUDPVDUHGHYHORSPHQWDOO\DSSURSULDWHDQGUHVHDUFK-based. 7KH\LQYROYHSDUHQWVDVWKHLUFKLOG¶VILUVWWHDFKHUVHUYHDVSUHYHQWLYHPHDVXUHVIRU children at risk of future school failure, enhance the educational readiness of eligible children, and support family education.
