Point Defiance Bypass Track and Signal Work
June 30, 2016 Nighttime and weekend traffic detour: Exit 119 – Barksdale Avenue
Beginning Thursday, July 14, Sound Transit’s contractor, Stacy Witbeck will remove and replace the existing tracks at the intersection of Barksdale Avenue and the southbound I-5 on-ramp, as part of the Point Defiance Bypass Project. The intersection will be closed to through traffic from 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14 until 5 a.m. Friday, July 15 and from 8 p.m. Friday, July 15 until 5 a.m. Monday, July 18.
The work will occur during the day and nighttime hours.
Use Center Drive exit 118 via Wilmington Drive to access I-5 during the weekend shutdown work for Barksdale Avenue. Center Drive will temporarily be used as a truck route during this outage.
What to expect:
Neighbors, motorists and businesses can expect work along the existing rail road track route that includes
Welding Grading Track installation Noise impacts similar to a truck engine running, with occasional rail cutting and beeping.
The Point Defiance Bypass project includes a new Amtrak passenger train station in Tacoma’s Freighthouse Square, new and upgraded track between Tacoma and DuPont and five reconstructed at-grade crossings, each with advanced warning and signal systems. When all work is complete in 2017 it will provide more frequent, reliable and faster Amtrak Cascades passenger rail service in Washington.
