    15/09/14: British Gymnastics is delighted to announce the men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics teams selected to represent Great Britain at the 2014 World Championships taking place in Nanning, China from the 3rd-12th October. The British men’s team includes 2014 all-around British, Commonwealth and European Champion Max Whitlock, alongside his English Commonwealth gold medal teammates Nile Wilson and Kristian Thomas. Commonwealth parallel bars Champion for Scotland Daniel Purvis also takes a spot, as does his teammate 2014 Commonwealth pommel horse Champion Daniel Keatings and double junior European Champion Courtney Tulloch. The reserve is 2012 Junior European Champion Frank Baines. The re-build of the academies in South Liverpool is now complete, which now gives us a much clearer development pathway within our academies to allow our gymnasts to progress at a pace suitable to them, and to allow them more variety in the skills they are being taught. Beth is currently touring with Celebrities on Ice and her skating partner, Dan Whiston. After an excellent opening weekend in Birmingham, she is off to Cardiff this weekend for week 2 of the tour! March 2019 The FIG MTC has made the following interpretations and clarifications regarding the 2017 MAG Code of Points at their March 2019 meeting in Lausanne (SUI). The information below responds to frequently asked questions since their last meeting and is separated into two distinct sections; Clarifications in Code of Points and new elements successfully performed since Newsletter #34. I. Clarifications to the 2017-2020 Code of Points General FIG Funded Judges (D & R at senior World Championships) • These judges must attend the judges’ instruction, podium training, all judges’ briefings for every phase, and all competition phases and days through the end of the event. Judging Uniforms • Judges are reminded that they are expected to follow the uniform requirements as stated in the Code of Points under Article 5.1 k Compression Bandages • Gymnast must refrain from wearing compression sleeves during competition • Please also refer to Article 2.3i, Competition Attire in the Code of Points. • Deduction for an attire violation is – 0.3 (article 2.4) NO NO Note: These types of sleeves can be worn on the bicep area for Parallel Bars and for joint support on all apparatus. In the second example, the sleeve may not extend more than half way down the forearm (or knee) to be considered as joint support. Flesh or skin color is preferred. Timing • Timing related to all exercises (start of exercise & exercise duration) will be done in 1 second increments. Floor exercise • Reminder that Gogoladze (Element I 93), or any other similar type elements, require a circle to front support.

    2011 Summary- 2011 was an exciting year for British Gymnastics. With the London 2012 Olympics in sight, selection and test events were rife as well as many a successful major Championships in various disciplines. British Gymnastics thought what better time than the year before a home Olympics to begin a new campaign to get everybody behind our athletes and involved in our sport. Therefore, the campaign ‘I AM BG’ was launched in October 2011 for all members and fans of British Gymnastics. With record breaking achievements, major events in Britain and much more 2011 was another outstanding year for all at BG. Men’s Artistic Gynmnastics British Championships Dan Purvis was crowned the 2011 men's British Champion. World Cups 20/3/11- Louis Smith won the pommel horse gold at the Paris Worlds Cup Event. 16/4/11- Britain’s Daniel Purvis took the men’s title at the Glasgow World Cup event. Britain's Daniel Purvis continued his sensational form by taking the bronze medal in the all-around competition at the FIG World Cup in Stuttgart. Britain’s Daniel Purvis was the 2011 artistic gymnastics all around World Cup champion having taken the bronze medal at the Tokyo world cup, the final event of the season. The World Championships Louis Smith took the Bronze medal on the pommel horse. 29/7/11- European Youth Olympic Festival Frank Baines took the p.bars gold and floor silver with Courtney Tulloch adding rings gold to his all-around title. 9-11/9/11- Commonwealth Youth Games With 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals in his tally, the 16-year old all-around winner Dominick Cunningham, from Earls GC England, was the most successful gymnast in the competition.

    Britain’s Nile Wilson, Dan Purvis, Kristian Thomas, Courtney Tulloch and Louis Smith MBE have retained their European Championships team silver medal in a high quality final in Bern (SUI). The team all contributed superb routines to the total with Nile and Dan Purvis leading the way with quality all-around performances and stand out routines such as Louis Smiths pommel, Kristian’s vault and Courtney’s rings adding to the team total of 268.427 points (over a point above their qualifying score). Russia took the gold medal scoring 271.378 whilst host nation Switzerland (263.278 points) rose to the occasion to take surprise bronze much to the delight of the home crowd. The British team were satisfied with their performances, Kristian Thomas commented: “It was a great competition with lots of positives for us all individually and as a team. The main focus at these championships is to use them to help us be at our best for Rio and I think we can all be happy that we have done that and of course it’s great to have a medal for our country.” Louis Smith echoed his comments saying: “It’s incredible and means a lot to me personally to have won the silver medal with these guys. For us to have completed 18 clean routines in qualifying and the final shows we are on track. This is very much a build-up event to Rio and we all still have more to give which is a huge positive.” Britain had qualified brilliantly through to the final in second spot narrowly behind Russia.
