LARRY MILLER As one of Hollywoodʼs most recognizable faces, Larry Miller has appeared in over 50 films and numerous television shows. Miller began his career with a memorable cameo as the brown-nosing store manager in “PRETTY WOMAN,” and has since gone on to delight audiences in some of the most unforgettable roles in such films as “BEST IN SHOW,” “WAITING FOR GUFFMAN,” “10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU,” “THE PRINCESS DIARIES I&II” and “THE NUTTY PROFESSOR I&II,” to name just a few. Miller was most recently seen in “THE FINAL SEASON” starring Sean Astin, Powers Boothe and Rachel Leigh Cook as well as a featured character voice in the upcoming animated Jerry Seinfeld film “BEE MOVIE.” Other credits include “FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION,” “KEEPING UP WITH THE STEINS,” starring opposite Jeremy Piven, “KISS KISS BANG BANG,” with Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer, and the critically-acclaimed documentary “THE ARISTOCRATS,” featuring 100 of the worldʼs most well-known comedians telling the dirtiest joke ever heard. Millerʼs numerous television credits include the hit shows “MEDIUM,” “DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES,” “LAW & ORDER,” and “SEINFELD,” along with recurring roles on “BOSTON LEGAL,” “8 SIMPLE RULES” and “MAD ABOUT YOU.” Miller has also made regular appearances on “REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER,” “THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO” and “THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN,” as well as starred in several of his own HBO comedy specials and on Broadway in Neil Simonʼs play “THE DINNER PARTY.” In addition to acting, Larry has a best-selling book Spoiled Rotten America. He is also a contributing humorist to The Weekly Standard. .

Before Jay Leno, Billy Crystal or Jerry Seinfeld, Robert Klein was delivering the type of observational jokes they’d emulate. As Leno revealed during his final episode of “The Tonight Show,” a poster of Klein was the only thing hanging in his apartment when he struggled as an aspiring comedian in the 1970s. When Klein first began entertaining audiences more than 40 years ago, comedians were a different breed. They wore cuff links and tuxedos. They stood out. Klein was pretty much like everybody else. His jokes weren’t one-liners. He talked about what everyone else was talking about. He made life funny. “My material has always been organic,” he said. “I talk about life... Just like a good novel, if you make good observations, it’s universal.” And at age 72, he’s still making life funny. He’ll take the stage – his favorite place to be – for another one-man show at 8 p.m. April 5 at the Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake. It’s a show, Klein said, that might surprise people. “After so many years in the business, I’m still a well-kept secret in person,” he said. “I’ve never been a big tour guy . In person, it’s a much different thing than a few minutes on [David] Letterman’s couch.” It’s a couch he’s been on about 50 times, by the way.

Image of PR Practitioner in Movies and Television 1901-2011 1 The Image of the Public Relations Practitioner in Movies and Television 1901-2011 Joe Saltzman1 Professor of Journalism Director, The Image of the Journalist in Popular Culture (IJPC) A Project of the Norman Lear Center Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism University of Southern California Los Angeles, CA [email protected] Introduction In this article, we examine images of public relations practitioners in film and television appearing in more than 327 English-speaking films and television programs from 1901 to 2011.2 This is the largest study of its kind ever attempted and one of the first to include the image of the public relations practitioner in television programs. Many public relations practitioners believe the image of the publicist and the PR professional is one of the most negative in history. But this analysis indicates that the images of the PR practitioner are far more varied and even more positive than previously thought. Literature Review There have been previous studies on the image of the PR practitioner in film. They include Karen Miller’s landmark study in 1999 (which included film and print images),3 Larry Tavcar’s 1993 look at 17 films depicting public relations in the movies,4 Donn James Tilson’s brief look at public relations and Hollywood in 2003,5 and Carol Ames’ comprehensive follow-up to Miller’s study in 2010.6 In addition, Mordecai Lee studied images of the public relations practitioner in government and public administration, sampling 20 films from 1944 to 2000 in a 2001 study,7 and in a 2009 update8 added seven more films from 1996 to 2008.
