Exclusive Escape to the North Moors 13th -16th June 2021 (3 nights)

Join us in the beautiful National Park. We stay at a charming, small country hotel and spend the four days together exploring the most delightful private gardens, tucked into hidden valleys or nestling on hillsides, providing glorious views of the surrounding countryside. Enjoy fabulous gardens, great food and welcoming hosts. Sunday 13th June 2021

Our tour commences at The Pheasant Hotel, in the village of Harome, North (with a transfer from York railway station available in the morning). We meet in the hotel lobby in the early afternoon and set out for our first garden visit. Located on the edge of the village of Oswaldkirk and within the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Havoc Hall’s garden has been developed by its owner since 2009. It features 12 distinct garden rooms with exceptional plant combinations and includes a knot garden and woodland walk. We enjoy a walk through the garden with the owner, the coordinator for the NGS. We return to the hotel for dinner (included). Monday 14th June 2021

Today we begin with an ‘out of hours’ guided garden tour at Newby Hall. These award-winning gardens are known for their double herbaceous borders, national cornus collection and intimate garden rooms. We also see the interior of the house with its superb Robert Adam features, Chippendale furniture and Gobelain tapestries.

We then travel to a village in the Vale of York. Here we meet the indefatigable owner of this lovely private garden, who has developed the garden, single handedly during the last 18 years. We enjoy lunch (included), after which we’ll explore the gardens. In the afternoon there will be a demonstration from the owner on how to use herbs, grown in your garden, in cocktails and drinks. We return to the hotel, where your evening is at leisure to dine in or explore the nearby town of with its many eateries. Tuesday 15th June 2021

Today we venture into a hidden valley of the North York Moors to visit a private garden that sits on a south-facing slope. The garden surrounds an attractive Arts & Crafts-style house, which has been owned by the family since it was built at the turn of the 20th century. Three generations have developed the gardens, the highlight being the unusual hillside, walled garden, known in the family as ‘the jewel box’.

We enjoy free time in the handsome market town of Helmsley, where there is time for lunch (independent) or a look into the charming Helmsley Walled Garden. Later we continue tel: 01423 396506 email: [email protected] www.sisley.co.uk 5 onto the gardens of Mount St John. These stunning gardens were designed by Tom Stuart-Smith and incorporate a vast productive walled garden, stepped parterres alongside a hugely impressive woodland valley garden. It is an absolute treat to be able to share this garden with you. After our guided tour of the gardens, we go to the village ‘gastro’ pub for dinner (included) - the walled garden at Mount St John supplies the restaurant with fresh produce every day. Wednesday 16th June 2021

After checking out of the hotel, we make our way deep into the heart of the Howardian Hills with wonderful views over the Vale of Pickering. Our firstgarden surrounds a fine Georgian manor, but its expansive walled garden originally served the much larger Elizabethan manor that previously stood on the site. This romantic and effusive walled garden is a delight to stroll through. We shall meet the head gardener who has worked the land here for more than 25 years. We enjoy morning coffee in the gardens before heading to our final garden of the tour.

Here we meet a very talented lady, not only has she designed and developed a delightful garden, she is one of the UK’s leading shell designers. After strolling through the garden, we are treated to lunch (included) in her exquisite garden shell house, which shimmers and shines. After lunch, we will return to The Pheasant Hotel and make a drop-off at York railway station for your onward journey.
