CELEBRITY CRICKET MATCH No 7 – MIDDLESEX CCC – 25/7/1995

As with the West Indies game a year earlier, this took place at The Meadow as a joint venture between LHCC and Chesham CC and was a benefit match on behalf of , as 1995 was his benefit year. Unfortunately John wasn’t there! He had received a late call up from England at the age of 42 and was at Old Trafford preparing for the test match against the West Indies, so his wife Susie ceremonially bowled the first ball of the match (while I looked after her handbag!).

And so to the cricket which was outstanding. The International XI captained by Derek Randall batted first.

Many thanks to Dave Parkhouse, who pointed out last week that I had inadvertently referred to Ashley Metcalfe at one point as ! Ooops!

“BLUE SKIES” LIST

This is the Club’s “wish list” of things we would like to do in the future (when we have the money!). If anyone out there has a suggestion of something they would like added to this list with a view to seeing it at LHCC in the future, would they send their suggestions to Jon Lown (e-mail address below) who will be updating this list in the near future.

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY

No cricket unfortunately, but Paul tells us he will have the bar open from 2 o’clock onwards in case anyone is wandering about on the Common and fancies some liquid refreshment.

ANNUAL END-OF-SEASON INTER-CLUB MATCH

This has had to be put back until Saturday 19th September because league fixtures go up to the 12th and ALL players are invited to come along and play. Nick Lee, Max Lee and Paul Green are the people to talk to about doing so.

Until next week, stay safe.

Eleanor Phillips, Club Secretary
