PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT WORKSHOP
Starting in January, homeowners will receive a “Notice of Property Value” from the NYC Department of Finance in the mail. These values are used by the NYC Department of Finance to determine the tax rate of a property. If owners believe their assessed values are not correct, they have until mid-March to challenge them with the NYC Tax Commission. My office is hosting representatives from the NYC Department of Finance and the NYC Tax Commission to help homeowners understand their property tax assessment and provide assistance. If you would like to participate, please RSVP as soon as possible.
Sunday, February 23, 2014 11:00AM - 1:00PM 159-16 Union Turnpike, Flushing, NY 11366 RSVP at 718-820-0241 or [email protected]
CALLING FOR BETTER PUBLIC TRANSIT IN DOUGLASTON
I stood with Congressman Steve Israel, Senator Tony Avella, Assemblymember Ed Braunstein, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Council Member Paul Vallone, the Riders Alliance, NYPIRG Straphangers Campaign, Community Board 11 District Manager Susan Seinfeld, Community Board 11 Transportation Committee members, and neighbors to call for increased bus service in Douglaston. Currently, Douglaston is only serviced by the QM3, QM5, QM8, Q12 and Q30. Now more than ever, we need solutions to serve all parts of the city and particularly outer borough communities who have been underserved for too long.
DISCUSSING LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
I joined Comptroller Scott Stringer, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Senator Toby Stavisky, Assemblymembers Ron Kim, Ed Braunstein, and David Weprin, and Council Members Mark Weprin, Rory Lancman, Paul Vallone, Peter Koo, Karen Koslowitz and Danny Dromm to discuss the Queens Jewish Community Council’s legislative priorities.
CONGRATULATING OUR OUTSTANDING TEACHERS
Last month, I joined Senator Toby Stavisky in congratulating two local teachers who received Sloan Awards for Excellence in Teaching Science and Mathematics. Yunseon Esther Kim, who teaches Algebra at Francis Lewis High School in Fresh Meadows, and Thomas Sangiorgi, who teaches Chemistry at Townsend Harris High School in Flushing, were both recognized for their innovative teaching methods. These teachers set a great example for their students and their fellow faculty members.
CELEBRATING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN BAYSIDE
I am proud to announce that P.S. 46 has received a National Blue Ribbon award from the US Department of Education! The Blue Ribbon is awarded to schools where students display superior levels of academic achievement. I joined Comptroller Scott Stringer, Congresswoman Grace Meng, Senators Tony Avella and Toby Stavisky, and Council Member Mark Weprin to celebrate and honor Principal Marsha Goldberg, the faculty and staff, and the students for this impressive academic achievement.
