GIVING AT KELLETT www.kellettschool.com INTRODUCTION

Kellett has a rich and unique history of parental involvement at the School. Parents established Kellett, and to this day every family (or parent) is a member of the Kellett School Association Ltd with voting rights.

Kellett is a charitable institution, one of very few not-for-profit international schools in , and as such we have a strong giving culture, be it in time, expertise or donations.

KELLETT PARENTS

Parents play an integral part in the institution and without their commitment and contribution, the School would not be the success it is today. It is a testament to the level of parental involvement at Kellett that there are often as many parents at our alumni gatherings as former students.

As a Kellett parent we invite you to read this leaflet and consider how you can play a role in the ongoing success and development of our students, community and school. There are many ways to contribute, from giving time, donations and expertise to supporting events. THE AMD FUND

Ann Mc Donald was the Principal of Kellett School from 1997-2019, and the AMD Fund for Bursaries and Scholarships was established to honour her incredible contribution to the development of the School.

The AMD Fund celebrates two aspects of education that guided her leadership – offering opportunity (bursaries) and achieving personal excellence (scholarships).

Offering opportunity is a central commitment at Kellett, and it goes beyond our student body and extends to others in our wider community. We are fortunate to be a privileged and well-resourced community who can extend a welcome to those who do not have the means to access a Kellett education. Sharing with others is enriching for our whole community, both in the act of giving but also in the different KELLETT perspectives that it exposes us to. Kellett has always had provision for hardship bursaries for families that run into financial FOUNDATION difficulties and has offered a bursary scheme for new students since the opening of the Senior School. As a community, we are committed to expanding our bursary provision In 2020 Kellett School established the Kellett Foundation, a separate to enable more children to develop a love of learning and confidence for life through a entity into which all charitable donations are channelled, be they for Kellett education. Kellett Cares (external charities), the Ann Mc Donald (AMD) Fund for 2 Bursaries & Scholarships or K (curriculum enhancements). We are working towards building an endowment fund so we can offer bursaries for generations to come. Kellett School will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026. To mark The Foundation is governed on an arm’s-length basis by past and that occasion, we aim to raise HK$12 million - this will enable us to have 14 bursary current members of the Kellett community. students in our School by 2026 which is a fitting way to mark our coming of age.

Once our endowment fund is well-established, we will look to support scholarships that seek to celebrate excellence. Until that time scholarships are funded by the School. K2

2 K (pronounced K Squared) seeks to supercharge the education and learning experiences of all our students beyond the limits of the School’s operational budgets. After all, an amazing speaker can be life-changing, inspiring an audience of young people to do great things.

Staff with exciting ideas on how to boost the School’s offerings can access the fund by submitting bids; these are assessed by Heads of School, as well as representatives of the Board and Parents’ Committee. Bids vary enormously from live science shows to musical troupes to artists-in-residence. What they have in common is their ability to inject another perspective or experience to the teaching and learning that goes on in the classrooms. KELLETT CARES

Kellett Cares supports NGOs in Hong Kong, Asia and around the world. In the Senior School, every year students choose which charities to support and how they are going to raise funds.

In both Prep Schools, money is raised through various Parents’ Committee-led activities, including the sale of a range of Kellett Cares items, such as umbrellas and aprons. The NGOs chosen at Prep are related to the curriculum to ensure students are well-informed of the issues, needs and impact.

Prep and Senior set aside funds for disaster relief, and students work together to determine where and when to release funds in an emergency. DONATIONS

There are various fundraising events across the year which offer opportunities to give 2 back. The much-loved annual School Fair fundraises for K , the fabulous biennial Ball raises money for the AMD Fund, and there are a wealth of student-centred Kellett Cares activities, many of which are run by volunteers from the Parents’ Committee. Please do support these events as much as you can, as they are invaluable for forging a strong Kellett community, as much as for fundraising. As well as attending, there are plenty of other ways to contribute, such as becoming a volunteer or donating auction items or THE BOARD prizes. OTHER WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

Class/year parents play a vital role in linking parents with teachers and can be highly rewarding, helping both other parents and staff members. It’s also a great way to meet other parents as class/year parents organise occasional drinks and gatherings.

In Senior School students undertake work experience and career talks to give them a taste of the wide range of career paths available to them. Kellett parents work in an enormous range of sectors, and we love exposing our students to as many of those as possible, so please consider offering a placement or career information.

If you work in an industry or role that relates to the school curriculum, our teachers would love to hear from you to see if it’s possible to arrange a curriculum talk or workshop. These initiatives help to extend our students’ knowledge and see how what they are learning relates beyond the classroom. THANK YOU!

Each Autumn we produce a Thank You magazine where we acknowledge and celebrate campus has a school shop selling educational supplies and stationery as the incredible and varied ways in which members of our community go the extra mile to well as cards and gifts, plus both Prep Schools have a book shop to engender a love of make our School and its students the best in Hong Kong and beyond. reading. The shops are run by volunteers and are very social pitstops at the heart of the School. Thank you for taking the time to read this leaflet, and we look forward to working together to realise our vision for your child and Kellett School.
