Dear Consultee,
Proposal to discontinue Pontfadog Community Primary School
The full statutory consultation has now concluded on the Local Authority’s proposal to discontinue Pontfadog Community Primary School.
Following consideration of the statutory objection report, a final decision on the proposal was taken by the Executive Board on 7 August 2018, to implement the proposal as detailed below.
Decision
Proposal to RESOLVED – discontinue Pontfadog (i) That the objections received during the Statutory Notice period, Primary School detailed within the Objection Report at Appendix 1 to report - Objection HEd/19/18, be noted. Report (ii) That Officers be approved to proceed with the proposal as published.
The school will be discontinued on 31st August 2019.
Reasons for decisions
To ensure sustainability in the immediate future, providing the most effective and efficient education services to the pupils of the Ceiriog Valley.
To satisfy the growing Welsh medium demand in the Ceiriog Valley which has resulted in the English medium numbers dropping at both Ysgol Pontfadog and within the Ysgol Cynddelw English medium stream. Sustainability has become a significant issue within the Federation and other models for delivery need to be explored.
Rydym yn croesawu gohebiaeth yn Gymraeg. Byddwn yn ymateb i unrhyw ohebiaeth yn Gymraeg ac ni fydd hyn yn arwain at unrhyw oedi. We welcome correspondence in Welsh. We will respond to any correspondence in Welsh and this will not lead to any delay.
There are currently just 18 pupils accessing Ysgol Pontfadog; this model is not sustainable. There is a requirement to make teaching and learning as effective and as efficient as possible whilst enhancing the learning experiences of the pupils in larger social groups.
Yours sincerely
Mark Owen Temporary Executive Director - Education & Projects Portfolio
