What was the outcome? Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to. That’s the only way to become what you are meant to be.

In my years of intense study of the Force, both under the Jedi and the First Order, I’ve been forced to reflect on my past. I come from a long line of leaders of our galaxy - my uncle Luke Skywalker, my father Han Solo, and my mother Princess Leia led the fight against the Empire. Growing up, I was raised in the cradle of their beliefs and morals. I was taught that all they did for our galaxy was good, but I’ve now learned that there are two sides to every story.

I trained for years with my uncle Luke, studying the ways of the Jedi. His power and his control of the Force amazed me. He once told me that he even was able to lift a X-Wing off the ground without even lifting a finger. His abilities only added to the mythos he shared with my parents - I was in awe of what he could do. I wanted to become him. As I trained alongside the other apprentices, I excelled, quickly proving myself as the strongest of the bunch. In my study of the Force, I was unparalleled. Soon, I was even able to stop a blaster shot in midair. But my growth terrified my uncle and he quickly revealed a cowardly side of the hero I once revered.

It is said that studying the Force gives you visions of the past, the present, and even the future. My uncle must have seen that I would surpass him to become the most powerful user of the Force because after that he stopped teaching me, even going as far as to threaten my life if I ever returned. I learned then that heroes don’t always make for the best teachers. But, I held strong in my desire to master the ways of the Force. Once I dismantled the ideas I had of my uncle, my father, and my mother, I was able to see them for their faults. I was able to see that tearing down the Empire had destabilized the galaxy. It was then that I decided to right their wrongs.

I come from another famous leader of the galaxy - one who has inspired this ideological change in my life - . I used to fear stories I heard of my grandfather’s power. But once I truly understood what he had achieved, uniting the galaxy under his firm grasp, I began to see a strength my uncle never possessed. I’ve found a new teacher, Supreme Leader Snoke of the First Order, and he is teaching me to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps. My mother and my uncle, further showing their cowardice, have disavowed my actions and even sent a strike force to stop me. They don’t understand that I’m trying to fix their mistakes.

I’ve repeated those words to myself, “let the past die. Kill it, if you have to,” everyday since I turned from my parents and uncle. While I find myself missing them, I’ve also learned that through my own sacrifice I’m closer to becoming the master of the Force I’ve always dreamed of being. Following in my grandfather’s footsteps, I see not only my past, but my future as well. My destiny is to bring a new order to the galaxy. It’s time to let old things die.

Required Explanation Disciplinary Violation During my junior year, I was suspended for breaking school property. I had just received an extremely poor grade on my precalculus exam, when I heard my classmate loudly brag about the A+ grade she had received. I’m so used to being the best at everything that I flew into a blind rage. Grabbing my lightsaber, I annihilated the computer at my desk, which was unfortunately property of the school. I was suspended for a week for the disciplinary infraction. Next time, I’ll do better on my precalculus exam and find a different target to take my anger out on.
