GREAT LIVES Monday, May 16, BBC One Wales, 10.35pm

2

This week, Kim Howells meets actor, comedian, and all-round entertainer Victor Spinetti, from Cwm near Ebbw Vale, in the second episode of Great Lives on BBC One Wales.

Following his education at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the aspiring actor moved to London. The proud Welshman and passionate performer became well-known for comic roles in the West End and further afield, on Broadway.

With Kim, Victor looks back at his diverse career - from working at The Royal Shakespeare Company to performing in Oliver!. Sir Paul McCartney pays tribute to his work, following his performance with in A Hard Day’s Night. Victor was the only actor to appear in all the Beatles films.

Still performing today and showing no signs of slowing down, the actor and director is having an extraordinary life.

RED LETTER DAY Tuesday, May 17, BBC One Wales, 10.45pm

This week sees the last in the series of Red Letter Day on BBC One Wales, with First Minister Rhodri Morgan discussing the Welsh devolution referendum, on September 18, 1997.

After a century of agitation and one unsuccessful referendum, Wales was once again offered the opportunity of running its own affairs, with a new referendum offered to the people. With the result a ‘yes’, but by the slenderest of margins, The National Assembly of Wales was created. Whichever side one backed, it was a day and night to remember. As then Welsh Secretary Ron Davies memorably said at the time, “Good morning…and it is a very good morning for Wales”.

Two years later, Wales’s elected government had a new home - Ty Hywel in Cardiff Bay, with the Assembly opening its permanent home in 2006, and the third round of elections held just this month.

Ar ddechrau’r wythnos, mae Yvonne yn gaeth mewn fan yng Nghaerdydd gyda Garry. Mae e’n rhoi dewis iddi, sef naill ai ei bod hi’n ei helpu i chwalu’r achos sydd gan yr heddlu yn ei erbyn, neu fe fydd e yn datgelu’r graddau mae hi wedi bod yn twyllo Gwyneth tra roedd hi’n bwydo gwybodaeth am Garry i’r Financial Crimes Investigation. Sut fydd Gwyneth yn teimlo os daw i wybod bod eu priodas wedi ei gwenwyno gan fisoedd o gelwydd?

Mae Huw’n gofyn i Lois yn blwmp ac yn blaen pwy yw tad ei babi hi. Dydy Lois ddim am rannu’r wybodaeth yn syth ond mae’n dirnad fod rhaid iddi wynebu’r gwir ei hun a gorau fyddai iddi ei rannu gydag Huw hefyd. Mae hi’n datgelu iddo mai’r tad ydy Rhys, ei ffrind gorau. Er i Huw wneud ei orau i fod yn rhesymol, mae ei ddicter yn ei drechu ac mae’n brysio i’r pentref i ddial.

Mae Dani yn dal i aros ym Maes-y-Deri am fod Brandon a hithau wedi gwahanu. Mae Mark yn ceisio ei orau i godi ei chalon ond mae sgwrs gynnes rhwng y ddau yn troi’n gusan. Oes mwy na chyfeillgarwch rhyngddynt? z At the beginning of the week, Yvonne is in Cardiff being held prisoner by Garry. He gives her an ultimatum; she can either help him sabotage the police’s case against him or he’ll have to tell Gwyneth about how Yvonne’s deceived her whilst feeding the Financial Crimes Investigation information on Garry. How will Gwyneth feel if she finds out her marriage is tarnished with lies?

Huw confronts Lois and urges her to tell him who the father of her baby is. Lois isn’t keen to share the information straight away but she knows that she’ll have to face the situation herself sooner or later and she really should be honest with Huw too. But when she reveals that the father is Rhys, his best friend, Huw, despite his best efforts to remain level-headed, sees red and marches to the village to seek revenge.

Dani’s still staying at Maes-y-Deri as she and Brandon remain apart. Mark does his best to cheer her up but a heart-to-heart between the pair leads to a kiss. Could there be more than friendship between them?
