Dear Parent / Carer

Re: Your Child’s Move to

Given current restrictions on social gatherings, unfortunately we shall be unable to welcome families to our usual Year 6 Open Mornings and Open Evening. This is a pity as we always enjoy meeting prospective students and letting them see first-hand our excellent teaching, high standards of pupil behaviour and engagement, and state of the art resources. You may be aware that the school’s facilities are very much improved in recent years through our multi-million-pound building improvement programme. The latest phase of this begins shortly, meaning that students joining us in September 2021 will benefit from newly refurbished art and drama rooms.

Instead of traditional open events we shall offer the best alternative possible by providing dedicated information on our website at www.arnewood.hants.sch.uk/primary-transfer . We hope this Virtual Open Event will allow you to gather information to help you plan the next step towards what we want to be your child’s amazing adventure into secondary education. As you will see, our ambition is to work with you over the next seven years to give every child the opportunity to experience high quality education, hopefully progressing to our outstanding sixth form and into the world of employment, training, further and higher education.

For the moment, unless you already have older children at The Arnewood School, you may be understandably anxious about the next big step. The web resources will give you a flavour or how we support transition for Year 6, to give just one example, by having a small team of dedicated pastoral leaders whose key role is annually to look after new students so they feel happy and can maintain their academic progress.

We shall be offering a webinar (online conference) for parents/carers on Friday 9th October at 12.30 p.m. at which we will make short presentations about school life and joining Year 7. You will be able to find details on the website along with information of how to register. A recorded version of proceeding will be made available at a later date for those who cannot participate but who have also registered. In the meantime, if you have further questions please email Mrs Kim Watson, Assistant Headteacher ([email protected]), who will be able to assist with enquiries.

I look forward to meeting you in the years ahead as hopefully normality returns and we once again able to meet face-to-face in greater numbers.

Yours faithfully

N. Pressnell Headteacher
