El manchego Antonio Serrano y el gallego Carlos de la Torre, ambos con un cuarto puesto en las ediciones de 1995 y 1996, son los corredores españoles que mejor clasificación han alcanzado jamás en la historia de los IAAF World Half Marathon Championships.

Por su parte, Julia Vaquero y Ana Isabel Alonso –vigente recordwoman española de maratón– son las que más cerca se han quedado del podio con un séptimo puesto en 1998 y 1995, respectivamente.

En cuanto a mejores marcas, el gallego Alejandro Gómez ha sido el corredor nacional más rápido en esta competición con un crono de 1h01:20 logrado, curiosamente, en la primera edición disputada en Tyneside (Gran Bretaña) en 1992; su puesto fue noveno. Cerca de ese registro anduvo hace pocos años Ayad Landassem con 1h01:22 en Copenhague-2014, aunque se nota la paulatina evolución en el nivel de esta competición, porque quedó decimoséptimo.

Ninguna mujer española ha corrido más deprisa con la camiseta nacional que Rocío Ríos, que en Kosice-1997 logró en 1h10:06 (octava).
