1981/134. Elections, appointments and nominations to subsidiary and related bodies of the Council

1. At its 16th plenary meeting, on 7 May 1981, the Council held elections to fill the seats falling vacant on 31 in four of its functional commissions.

Commission on Narcotic Drugs The following fifteen States were elected for a four-year term: Australia, Bahamas, Belgium, , Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama, Republic of Korea, , Turkey, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Zaire. At its 16th and 17th plenary meetings, on 7 May 1981, the Council also held elections to fill vacancies in the following bodies: Commission on Human Settlements, Commission on Transnational Corporations, Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund, Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme, Committee on Food Aid Policies and Programmes and International Narcotics Control Board. The Council nominated Member States for election by the General Assembly to the Committe for Programme and Co-ordination, and it appointed members of the Committee for Development Planning and the Board of Trustees of the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women. The Council elected seven members of the International Narcotics Control Board for a five-year term beginning on 2 March 1982. The Council also elected Mr. Nobuo Motohashi (Japan) for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 1 March 1982 to fill a casual vacancy that occurred by operation of article 10, paragraph 3, of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961, as amended by the 1972 Protocol.
