Blacon Thistle are the toast of the CWFL after pulling off a stunning 3-2 victory over League One side Maine Road Reserves in the third round of the Northern Cup competition. In conditions that tested both sides Thistle were trailing after 5 minutes when they conceded an early penalty. However a first half brace from Tommy George and a Joe Henry goal gave them a 3-1 halftime lead. With the pitch deteriorating as the second half progressed Maine Road pulled a goal back giving Blacon an anxious last five minutes. Nomads game will against Mitch FC will have to be rearranged after falling foul of the weather just an hour before kick off.

Samba have made it safely through to the quarterfinals of the CWFL Goals Soccer Centre Chester Cayzer Shield after seeing off Clubbies 4-2. Samba lead 4-0 at half time through goals from Ian Johnson, James Holroyd, Jon Britton and Steve Finlay. Jake Johnson netted a brace for Clubbies in the second half in a spirited fight back but Samba held strong till the end.

Liam Bradford scored the only goal of the game for Deva Athletic as they edged past Newton Athletic 1-0 in the CDFA Senior Cup round three. In the same competition Leon Whitley scored twice for Lache as the beat Lodge Bar 3-0, Liam McGovern added the third.

In the CDFA Challenge Cup round three MBNA defeated Lodge Bar Reserves 5-1. Lodge Bar got off to a great start and came out fighting, scoring in the first 10 minutes. As the game progressed MBNA settled down and started to take control of the game. Dan Chatburn won a penalty after a great run into the box and his twin brother Ryan scored the resulting penalty kick. MBNA then took the lead through manager Lewis Mitchell when a corner was headed home into the top corner. In the second half MBNA continued to press and killed off the game after an overlapping run from Gareth Higgins who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner. The fourth goal was scored by joint top scorer Paul Jones and the inform Tom Povey finished the game off with a classic finish.

In the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division FC move back into pole position after Birkenhead Towns match at home to Shafts was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. The Port beat Kelsall 8-1 thanks to strikes from Cameron Forster, Ryan Abraham, Adam Smith 2, Matty Earlam 2 and Nicky Monaghan 2. John Houghton hit the consolation for Kelsall. Higher Bebington Kelma climb three places and leapfrog Whitby Athletic whom they beat 4-3 with goals from Ben Keirman 2, Levi Woolley and Mark Lawler. Paul Butler (Pen), Steve Rothwell and Anthony Rigby replied for Whitby.

In the CWFL Olympic Trophies Division One, Franklyn’s climb into fourth place after seeing off Elton Athletic 4-1. Joe Ormrod hit the Elton goals with Franklyn’s winners courtesy of Ryan Wardle, James Shaw, Tom Brennan and Jack Ford. Ashton travelled to Cestrian Alex, Joe Walters, Adi Gough and an own goal, to record a 5-3 win. Les Barnes scored twice for Neston Town but it was not enough as they went down 3-2 at home to Chester Nomads III.

Adam Roper 2 and Ash English were the scorers for Hoole Rangers in their 3-1 home win over Orange Athletic in the CWFL Link Up Division Two. Wayne Clark 2, Tom Senior and Jordan Ford were on target for Elton Rigger in their 4-2 win at Hoole Youth, Steve Bellis and Jack Rowlands replying. Ellesmere Port Town III ran out 6-3 winners over neighbours Spartans in the Ellesmere Port derby game.

In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division Crossway Vets beat Park Vets 4-3 thanks to goals from Andy Mellor, Steve Gore, Chris Woodman and Danny Brown.
