OPERATIONAL CONTEXT: Currently, Myanmar is at a cross-road after years of military rule. We support Myanmar civil society in their work for a peaceful, prosperous country governed by rule of law and respect for diversity.

DCA has supported Myanmar since the 1990s and in 2017 DCA reached 300,000 people in need.

DCA IS FOCUSING ON THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES: ● Save lives through humanitarian action ● Build strong and resilient communities ● Fight injustice and inequality

Through a joint office and country programme, Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) and DanChurchAid (DCA) support local and national civil society in their work for human rights, development, and resilient communities. All our activities are aimed at fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and that no one is left behind in Myanmar’s national development process.

WHAT WE DO: BHUTAN Strengthening a diverse and capable civil society: We work with a range of stakeholders to link the work at grassroot level with national policy changes, and engage community leaders and faith-based and secular civil society organisations (CSOs) as well as relevant government offices INDIA on all levels. We help our local partners through capacity building, networking, and accompaniment. Many of our partners CHINA continue to be the first responders in times of crisis and often provide important social services or speak out on behalf of their communities.

Saving lives and building resilient communities: Natural disasters and conflict threaten the lives and dignity of people in Myanmar. We help people recover from disasters through timely humanitarian assistance. We assist people in generating resilient livelihoods and manage natural resources in a sustainable way. We also work to build safer communities free of violence through our community safety methodologies MYANMAR and mine risk education. We support our partners’ emergency preparedness response by developing contingency and risk management plans.

Fighting inequalities: We work with communities and local human rights defenders to promote democracy, rule of law, respect for human rights Nay Pyi Taw and the elimination or prevention of human rights abuses and discrimination, such as gender-based violence. We also work to build platforms where local authorities and communities together can find solutions to development issues in a participatory and accountable manner that respect rule of law and human rights.
