Rock Band Tournament Rules Rock Band Tournament Rules This is a rule set for the Rock Band Tournament sponsored by the ACM SIGGRAPH Purdue Student Chapter at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Final discretion regarding all rules is up to SIGGRAPH and the tournament staff. Tournament Rules • There is a non-refundable $20 entry fee for each band that registers online before the deadline. Late registration at the door is $30 for each band. • This tournament will be played on the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 2. • Each band is comprised of up to four members and may play at any difficulty they desire. • Bands are allowed to have a band member sing and play an instrument at the same time. • Band members may switch instruments between songs, if desired. rd th • Registration will take place online from February 23 at 12am to April 11 at 12am for early registration. • Check-in, late registration, and qualifying rounds will take place in MTHW 210 from 11am to 5pm. • Final playoffs will be on stage in MTHW 210 at 6 pm. • There will a qualifying round, consisting of three songs selected by each band. o Score will consist of the total of the two highest song scores. o The qualifying round must not last longer than 30 minutes, which includes setup, teardown, and playing the songs. o Please take song lengths into consideration when choosing your qualifying setlist, as it must be completed in 30 minutes or less. • After all bands are ranked, the top five teams will move to the final playoffs: o Performance order for the final round will be picked out of a hat by each qualifying band. o Each final band picks two songs. o Final score will consist of: . Total Raw Score . Audience Participation . Stage Presentation o Prizes will be awarded to the top five finalists, based on final score. • Bands cannot choose the same song twice throughout the tournament. • All 84 Rock Band 2 songs, plus the 55 songs that may be exported from the original Rock Band, are allowed. See full list below. • Bonus points may be awarded for costumes at the judges’ discretion. Costumes must follow any and all university regulations regarding decency, offensive content, etc. • Judges reserve the right to deduct points based on inappropriate behavior, excessive foul language (excluding song lyrics), rude gestures, late arrival for a scheduled tryout spot, etc. Instrument Regulations • Guitarists/Bassists o All guitarists/bassists may bring their own guitars. o Any Xbox 360 guitar is allowed: Xplorer, Les Paul, Fender. o Modded guitars are NOT allowed. NO homemade star power buttons/pedals, etc. • Vocalists o All vocalists may bring their own microphones and controllers. o Mic stands are allowed. • Drummers o Working drum kits will be provided by tournament staff. o You are welcome, and encouraged, to bring your own kit. o “Defect Correcting” drum mods are allowed (i.e. sock mod, gum rubber, tape, penny mod, etc.). o All drummers may bring their own Bass Pedal and Drumsticks. o Limited bass pedal mods are allowed: . Reinforced RB Pedals (i.e. “MegaPedal”). Reed Relay driven bass pedals (i.e. “Lazy Man’s Mod”). Practice pad with piezo sensor (Only for SINGLE bass pedal). Double bass mods are NOT allowed. Other Fine Print • All contestants must be 18 years of age or older to participate, and have legal proof of identification, such as a Purdue Student ID. • Winners are responsible for all tax liability, which may be incurred by accepting a prize. • SIGGRAPH reserves the right to use winner’s names, voices and /or likeness in any live and/or recorded promotional announcements, regarding any contests or give-aways. • All decisions by SIGGRAPH are final and non-negotiable. • SIGGRAPH reserves the right to amend these rules at any time without notice.
