Senior Quiz Night 16 th February 2013 New After Match Shirts

This off-season, the HVCC Committee has been working hard to get some new After Match shirts designed and produced. After much deliberation and many sample designs, finally, they have arrived! These shirts only cost $40 and they look amazing. Unfortunately, at this stage we only have Adult sizes available. If there is enough interest from our Junior counterparts, we will be able to organise to get Junior sizes in. Below is a picture of a couple of the lads wearing the new shirts with the picturesque backdrop of St Peter's College.

Paul “Iceman” Eckermann and Aidan “Maverick” Wilkins willingly modelling the new shirts. Unfortunately “Goose” was unable to make the photoshoot. Junior Presentation Dates

Senior Cricket Results and Reviews A3 Round 3 vs St Peters Old Collegians at Caterer Oval Hope Valley 8/335 and 4/66 defeated St Peters 205 on first innings Batting: Watson 113, Wilkins 75, Gentile 61, Wood 54. Bowling: Massacci 4/48 off 18 overs, Madigan 3/46 off 13 overs, Eckermann 2/29 off 11 overs, Spooner 1/33 off 6 overs

After looking at the pitch, which was green on top and hard underneath with a luscious outfield that would rival Adelaide Oval, Watto didn't know what to do if he won the toss. He asked everyone, even the local koala who just grunted at him and went back to sleep. Watto won his first toss for the club, shook hands with the opposition captain and returned to the group yelling “We're batting lads”. Returning from injury last round, Alex Gentile opened the batting with Brett Madigan. We lost Madigan (1) early getting cramped for room trying to work a short ball to leg and popped it up for gully to take an easy catch, score was 6. Aidan Wilkins in to bat at 3 and got off to flyer, at one stage crunching 16 runs off an over with some glorious drives. SPOC set some unusual fields to both batters, leaving cover wide open, point halfway to the boundary and a stacked slips cordon, then bowled half volleys (this field remained a constant for about 30 overs). After some very heartfelt LBW shouts, Gents and Wilko settled in and guided us to drinks, turning the strike over with ease and putting the bad balls away (the most full tosses I've ever seen bowled!) for four. However, there were a few scares at the non-strikers end when Wilko tried to smash the ball back as hard as he could, hoping to get a touch from the bowler and run Gents out. Not long after drinks, Wilko brought up his 50 and a few overs later, to keep things interesting, thought he'd add a bit of banter in between overs. “Hey Gents?” “Yes, Aidan” “I've made my 50. Have you got yours yet? Hurry up!” So, not only does one get sledged by the opposition, one gets sledged by his own team mate and batting partner! We went into tea with SPOC behind in the overs and we were sitting comfortably with the score 1/118. Gents still hadn't got his 50 yet. The afternoon tea spread was a shocker; one platter of egg salad sandwiches, one platter of party pies and sausage rolls (that were cold!), 2 platters of cakes. No fruit and nothing to add a bit of freshness. Poor form. Hope they make a better effort on day 2. First ball after tea, Gents received another full toss and hit it into the gap to finally bring up his 50. Gents had made his way to a well compiled 61, before chipping another full toss to midwicket and was caught with the score on 133. Enter Jason McNally. Macca, batting 2 foot out of his crease with a big stride forward, left a ball that barely clipped the top of his front pad. BANG!!! The umpires finger is up within seconds of the appeal. Macca walks off shaking his head in bewilderment. Our number 5 bat walks out to the crease with whispers going around the opposition field, “Is that Watson?” “Yeah, I think that's Watson”. Wilko departed not long after for a majestic 75 feathering one through to the keeper up to the stumps with the score on 157. SPOC were fairly excited to get us 4 down but it only brought Alex Wood to crease, who has been in great touch so far this season scoring a 50 each time he has batted. This innings was no different as he again combined with Watto to bring up another century partnership and another 50 for himself in the process. Woody was out caught on the boundary in a selfless quest for runs for 54, the score 290. In dying stages of the day, we lost a few quick wickets. Spooner was out LBW for a duck playing across the line trying to find a gap in the field and poor Michael Neal smoked the first ball he faced straight to midwicket who would have had no chance if the ball was hit either side of him. Shaun O'Connor negotiated the hat-trick ball and had a nice, albeit short, 26 run partnership with Watto before Watto was out with the score 331 in the last over of the day. Shaun was unbeaten at the end with 13 runs from 9 balls. What a great day to bat on probably the best ground in the ATCA Comp. We applied ourselves well throughout the day and had a team score of 8/335. Gents and Wilko got us off to the perfect start before tea which set the team up for the onslaught that happened after tea. Well done to Woody for getting his 3 rd 50 in a row. Watto put on a masterclass and was as absolute pleasure to watch en route to 113 from 88 bal
