CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE FOR 2019 SEASON
It is encouraging to see a reversal in the decline of team numbers for the first time in 6 years, all be it slight, with 87 teams entered compared to 86 last year.
The number of juniors playing cricket is not helped by many different reasons (TV coverage, other activities, ‘red tape’), but hopefully with the 2019 World Cup and an Ashes Series on home soil this year, and the introduction of City cricket in 2020, we will see participation increase.
The T20 experiment in our League last year was well received and this is partly being introduced in the Under 15’s this year. However the current ECB proposal to introduce protective clothing with Helmets at Under 9’s, if we continue to play with an Incrediball, could be a drawback. This is currently under review by the League. Safety must always be a high priority with the juniors but we must at all times also encourage them to participate.
The senior League have introduced a Development League this season to try and encourage juniors to progress into adult cricket. This is the challenge we face.
All of us reading and using this Handbook are already committed to junior cricket, but we must encourage more participation. I hope that Clubs will work hard to encourage more volunteers, and that it is not left to the ‘same few’ to run all of your teams.
As always the League and Club officials perform a vital role in the continued success of the League, so I urge you to give them your full support, and on behalf of the League I wish to thank all Officials and wish them well in the year ahead.
Mick Dawson continues as League Secretary, so the administration of both the Outdoor and Indoor Leagues is in safe hands, however I would appeal for help on the Indoor League. A new Indoor League Secretary would be wonderful to ease the extreme administration burden upon Mick.
The Logshed decided to withdraw after two years of League sponsorship, and while DAC Sports were prepared to continue for a third year as Cup sponsors, the League were approached by Kettlewell Fuels about a 3 Year League and Cup Sponsorship. This has been accepted and we look forward to working closely with Kettlewell Fuels over the next three years. We also very much appreciate the last two years of sponsorship by The Logshed and DAC Sports. We would encourage all of our clubs, players and families to support our sponsors where possible, and as a sign of appreciation we hope that you will 6

1. he idderdale unior Cric et eague is committed to maintaining the highest standards of behaviour and conduct. his Code of Conduct incorporates the pirit of Cric et, as set out below. t applies to all matches played under the auspices of the idderdale unior Cric et eague.
2. he anagers are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the pirit of Cric et as well as within the aws.
. Players and team officials must at all times accept the umpire’s decision. Players must not show dissent at the umpire’s decision or react in a provocative or disapproving manner towards an umpire at any time.
. layers and team officials shall not intimidate assault or attempt to intimidate or assault an umpire, another player or a spectator.
5. layers and team officials shall not use crude and or abusive language (known as “sledging”) nor make offensive gestures or hand signals nor deliberately distract an opponent.
. layers and team officials shall not ma e racially abusive comments nor indulge in racially abusive actions against fellow players, officials, members and supporters. Clubs must operate an active open membership policy whilst respecting player ualification regulations and welcome players members irrespective of ethnic origin.
. layers and team officials shall not use or in any way be concerned in the use or distribution of illegal drugs.
. Clubs must ta e ade uate steps to ensure the good behaviour of their members and supporters towards players and umpires.

. The League shall be known as the Nidderdale Junior Cricket League (“the Junior League”) and shall consist of such clubs as the NADACL shall approve.

The League Management Committee (“LMC”) shall have power to expel a mem er of the unior eague when in the opinion of the it would not e in the interests of the for it to remain a mem er. clu shall not e e pelled unless it is given days written notice to attend a meeting of the isciplinary Panel together with written notice of the reasons for such e pulsion. he clu shall e given an opportunity to appear efore the said Panel to answer complaints against it and shall not e e pelled unless at least two thirds of the mem ers of the said Panel then present vote in favour of its e pulsion and the decision of the said Panel is ratified y two thirds ma ority of the .
. he of the shall make such rules as it sees fit from time to time for the purpose of e ercising its authority over the unior eague and its responsi ilities for the operation of the unior eague.
