Maggie (Betty) Boland was born February 28, 1920 to Thomas and Maggie (Kinloch) Harpham at , , . She was raised on her parent’s farm near , Saskatchewan and received her education through the second year of high school at the In Loving Memory local country school. Due to her father’s illness, Maggie stayed home to help on the farm. Maggie “Betty” Boland On November 27, 1944 Betty married Ralph Boland at Mankota. Ralph farmed near , Saskatchewan. In 1946 the couple moved to Mankota where he became a grain elevator manager. Continuing their life in the grain business, they moved to North Dakota in 1949, living first at Hartland, ND, and then transferred to White Earth, ND in 1954. In 1963 they moved to Wolf Point, MT and in 1973 to Williston, ND. Betty worked as a bookkeeper for Farmers Union Oil Company, and in Williston, for JC Penney until her retirement in 1982. Betty and Ralph spent 20 enjoyable winters near Weslaco in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Betty was an avid gardener and homemaker. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidering, and doing crossword puzzles. She was a devoted wife and with her pleasant personality gained many friends throughout the areas where she resided. She was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Williston. Betty is survived by her brother-in-law, Lyle Nelson of Williston, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews; and her very special friend, Orville Raaum, who was a blessing to her and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; and sisters, Lillian Ekman and Mae Hanson; sisters-in-law, Helen Boland, Lillian Solberg Nelson, and Gladys Davidson; and brothers-in-law, Sidney Solberg and Jack Davidson.
