Why?
• FGM is a harmful prac ce, acknowledged as a form of gender-based discrimina on
• 200,000,000 affected girls and women worldwide; 500,000 affected in the EU, 180,000 girls at risk in the EU
• FGM is sustained by social pressure, unequal gender rela ons, and other forms of violence against women, as well as a lack of informa on on the prac ce and its consequences, and taboos around sexuality and violence

• Empower community members to act as catalysts of behaviour change • Raise awareness on FGM • Promote behaviour change towards the abandonment of FGM • Reduce pressure on families to con nue FGM • Integrate community voices into debates on FGM • Create an enabling environment giving advice to public authori es, key professionals and other stakeholders on how to be er prevent FGM

Who are the CHANGE Agents?
Origin • The 50 CHANGE Agents are from: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo. • Mostly countries with high prevalence of FGM Age • The youngest is 17 years old, the oldest 64 Gender • 18 male and 32 female Community members • All of them play ac ve roles in their communi es and are highly mo vated to facilitate change
Diversity in terms of age, gender, origin and professional experience to ensure that most community members are reached
