Soundwell Swimming Club County Qualifier Level 3 Open Meet Sat 28Th & Sun 29Th November 2015 Established since 1962 Soundwell Swimming Club County Qualifier Level 3 Open Meet Sat 28th & Sun 29th November 2015 Dear Prospective Sponsor Soundwell swimming Club was founded in 1962 and currently has over 130 swimmers who compete regularly and a further 130 who are learning to swim and aiming to move up through the club. The swimmers range from 4 yrs. of age through to university aged students who return regularly and remain supportive of the club. We are based at Kingswood Leisure Centre in Kingswood, South Gloucestershire and remain one of the most successful club in the Bristol area. We are a ‘not for profit’ competitive swimming club and currently help fund the club through a number of fund raising activities. As part of our fundraising activities and to present the younger swimmers with the opportunity to perform in a competitive swimming event, we are running an Open Meet over the weekend of 28th-29th November 2015. This is the second Open Meet run by Soundwell Swimming club and we hope to make it even more successful than our first. The Open Meet will consist of 30 events, with approximately 430 children competing over the 2 days. More than 12 visiting swimming clubs from the Bristol and South Gloucestershire area will be attending and we are expecting a large parent turnout to support their children throughout the event. To help the club cover the cost of running the Open Meet we are asking you for a small sum of £25 to sponsor an individual event. For this, your name/company will be announced at the start of the event, and will appear in the meet programme alongside the event details. Your name/company will also appear on the club website showing your support for the event and club. We would be very grateful for your support and hope this opportunity will be of interest to you. It is an opportunity to support both to the local community and the development of the young swimmers at the Club. Soundwell Swimming Club would like to take this opportunity to thank you for considering this opportunity. • Tindall's Memories
MEMORIES OF THE PHYSICS DEPARTMENT K. F. Tindall 1 Memories of the Physics Department by K.F. Tindall Foreword My memories of life at the H.H.Wills Physics Laboratory in the University of Bristol span forty-one years. There are gaps, for I was not there for the whole of that period; indeed, in 1940, although I was in the building, I was there as an Admiralty visitor, and between 1949 and 1951 I was at St Mary's Hospital Medical School, Paddington. The urge to record some of the happenings in the department over the years has been with me for a long time. I promised myself I would do it when I retired but other interests affected my motivation. In December, 1989, I met Professor Thompson in the laboratory who asked me if I'd started writing. When I said I was thinking about it he encouraged me greatly, saying, "GET ON WITH IT!" I have tried to verify all facts and dates and am very grateful to all my colleagues throughout the University who have supplied information. From outside the department those whom I thank include Sir Alfred Pugsley, Mr.Evan Wright, Mrs.Molly Sanders, Chris Harries and Brian Jenkins. Don Carleton advised me to include everything I could remember. I have followed his advice but there are bound to be omissions. My thanks certainly go to Eleanor, my wife, who has not only tolerated my disappearing from the domestic scene for hours at a time while I applied fingers to keyboard, but has aided my memory and criticised, helpfully, my results.
