Fishing Regulations Fishing Report Friday July 2nd, 2021 Review News and Information

CPW enacts voluntary fishing closure on the Dolores River Due to extremely low flows and concerns about warm water temperatures, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is asking anglers to self-regulate their fishing activities. Effective immediately, CPW is placing a voluntary fishing closure on the Dolores River from noon through the remainder of the day.

CPW to co-host annual July 4th Kids Fishing Derby in Salida Looking for a fun way to celebrate Independence Day? Colorado Parks and Wildlife is co-hosting the annual July 4th Kids Fishing Derby at Frantz Lake State Wildlife Area near Salida with co-hosts Trout Unlimited. CPW has stocked the lake, which is adjacent to its Mount Shavano Fish Hatchery, and CPW officers will be providing fishing instructions at the derby. CPW also will have a limited number of fishing poles for kids who don’t have poles.

Big prizes beckon smallmouth bass anglers to the 7th Annual tournament If you like fishing and would like a shot at winning as much as $5,000, head over to Ridgway State Park starting in July and cast a line to participate in the Seventh Annual Smallmouth Bass Fishing Tournament sponsored by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. No registration is required and all you need to participate is a Colorado fishing license. In all, CPW is offering $10,000 in cash prizes during the tournament which runs from July 10 through August 8. And the more fish you catch, the more chances you have to win.

CPW participates in Operation Dry Water to encourage sober boating Boaters heading out onto Colorado waters this weekend will see additional Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers enforcing boating under the influence (BUI) laws as part of the national Operation Dry Water campaign from July 2-July 4.

Mack Mesa Reservoir refilled and fishery reset In response to the discovery of northern pike in Mack Mesa Reservoir at , Colorado Parks and Wildlife has completed the draining and refilling of Mack Mesa Reservoir. CPW was able to transfer many of the fish from Mack Mesa to other approved waters, including nearby Highline Lake and Rifle Gap Reservoir while ensuring the lethal removal of northern pike.

The Blue Mesa Lake Trout tournament continues through July! Anglers value both kokanee and lake trout angling opportunities. Kokanee provide the greatest draw for overall catch and harvest; lake trout provide the greatest draw for overall trophy potential. Kokanee have provided up to 85% of the May through October angler catch, while lake trout over 50 pounds and 44 inches in length have been caught at Blue Mesa.
