Semantic Webisamajorinternationalresearch effort with thegoaltomakeweb content availablefor intelligent knowledgeprocessing.Itdraws on standardand novel techniques from variousdisciplines within Computer Science, includingKnowledge Management,ArtificialIntelligence, Databases,InternetTechnology,SoftwareAgents, eCommerce, etc. Themethods andtoolsdevelopedand integrated forthispurpose – oftencalledSemantic Technologies – aregeneric andhaveavery largeapplication potentialoutside thedomainofthe Semantic Web. Such applications arecurrently being investigated in variousdisciplines within Computer Science, includingAmbient Intelligence, Software Engineering, Cognitive Systems, CorporateIntranets,Knowledge Management,Bioinformatics, etc. We believe that Semantic Technologies provide methods andtoolsthatwill persist in theseand otherapplicationareas forthe foreseeable future.
This workshop brings together researchersand practitioners whoworkonapplications of Semantic Technologies.Itfurthersthe cross-fertilizationbetween applicationareas and aids thetechnology transfer from foundationalresearch into practice. TheAST workshopseriescoversdiverse applicationareas of Semantic Technologies, including:
• AmbientIntelligence • MultimediaDataManagement • Grid Computing • Cognitive Systems • Service-Oriented Computing • Peer-to-Peer Systems • DataIntegration • Machine Learning • eCommerce • Software Engineering • eScience • eGovernment • InformationExtraction • Bioinformatics
71 ForAST2010, we selected eightsubmittedpapersfor presentation. Four of them address topics in theareaofthe INFORMATIK 2010 guiding theme “ServiceScience” ,namely Webservice composition, Webservice discovery, matching of business andelectronic services as well as business-orientedCAx integration. Theother four paperscover variousaspectsofSemantic Webapplications andtechnologies, namelyusing semantic Wiki andsemanticmetadatafor IT ServiceManagementand e-Learning, respectively, as well as ontology engineeringand ontology versioning as important base technologies. Theworkshopprogramwill be complemented by twospeakersfromindustry: Christian Seitz (Siemens AG,Munich) whoelaborates on semantic technologies in indusry, energy andhealthcare, andJensLemcke(SAPAG, Karlsruhe)who discussesthe SAP view on Semantic Business ProcessManagement.
This year’s program committee included Sören Auer (University of Leipzig, Germany), Franz Baader(TU Dresden, Germany), BernhardBauer (University of Augsburg, Germany), Christoph Beierle(University of Hagen, Germany), FrançoisBry (University of Munich,Germany), Johannes Busse (ontopriseGmbH, Germany), AndreasFriesen (SAP AG,Germany), Thomas Fuhr (Georg SimonOhm University of AppliedSciences Nuremberg, Germany), JensHartmann (EnBWAG, Germany), Mark Hefke (CAS SoftwareAG, Germany), Wolfgang Hesse (University of Marburg, Germany), Gabriele Kern-Isberner (University of Dortmund, Germany), Harald Kosch(University of Passau, Germany), Daniel Krause(L3SHannover,Germany), Thorsten Liebig(University of Ulm, Germany), MeenakshiNagarajan (Wright StateUniversity Dayton Ohio,USA), Daniel Oberle(SAPAG, Germany), SimonSchenk(University of Koblenz, Germany), Stefan Schlobach(VU Amsterdam,The Netherlands,Germany), MichaelSintek(DFKI Kaiserslautern, Germany), Robert Tolksdorf(FU Berlin,Germany), Valentin Zacharias (FZI Karlsruhe,Germany), and Jürgen Ziegler (University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany).Wethankall program committeemembersfor theirhelpinreviewing the contributions.
