Index Chart Market Wrap Up

● The domestic equity benchmarks ended with decent gains. The S&P BSE Sensex, rose 221.52 points or 0.42% to 52,773.05. The Nify 50 index added 57.40 points or 0.36% to 15,869.25. The Nify hit a record high of 15,901.60 in morning trade today.

● The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.60% and the BSE Small-Cap index added 0.44%.

● Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, the Realty index (up 1.55%), the CDGS index (up 0.99%) and the Bankex (up 0.91%) outperformed the S&P BSE Sensex. Meanwhile, the Healthcare index (down 0.71%), the Power index (down 0.53%) and the Metal index (down 0.45%) underperformed the S&P BSE Sensex.

Global News

's foreign direct investment jumped 35.4% year-on-year to CNY 481 billion (USD 75.3 billion) in January-May 2021, amid a low base efect from last year, when FDI into the country dropped by 3.8%.

● U.K. unemployment rate dropped 0.3% points in three months to April to 4.7% in three months to April. In May, claimant count dropped 92,600 from the previous month.

● Eurozone trade surplus narrowed to EUR 9.4 billion in April from EUR 18.3 billion in March. On an unadjusted basis, the trade surplus totaled EUR 10.9 billion compared to EUR 2.3 billion in the same period last year.

● Germany's consumer price index rose 2.5% annually afer a 2.0% increase in April. On a monthly basis, CPI rose 0.5% in May.

● France's consumer price inflation rose to 1.4% in May from 1.2% in April. On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced 0.3%, following a 0.1% rise in April.

● Crude Oil traded at US$ 71.53/bbl (IST 17:00).

● INR weakened to Rs. 73.31 from Rs. 73.27 against each US$ resulting in daily change of 0.05%.

● India's consumer price index jumped to 6.3% in May. Food inflation accelerated to 5.01% in May, as compared to 1.96% in April. The CPI inflation had eased to a three-month low of 4.23% in the month of April.

● India’s business activity climbed sharply in the second week of June, the Nomura India Business Resumption Index (NIBRI) jumped by 8.1 percentage points (pp) to 76 for the week ended June 13, from 67.9 a week earlier.

● UAE has emerged as India’s premier strategic partner in the Gulf. With bilateral trade at US$ 60 billion, the India-UAE relationship is special, as seen in the surge of UAE investments in India, or in the number of Indian startups setting up in the Gulf nation and in the hiring of IT professionals from India.

● India’s largest pork processing plant, coming up in the Upper Assam town of Nazira, along with another upcoming unit in Sikkim targeting organic swine meat, will likely transform Northeast India into a pork export hub, with the potential to significantly alter the scale of the sector, a senior oficial of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) said.

● The Soy Food Promotion and Welfare Association (SFPWA), which represents soybean food processing industries in India has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow the processing industry to import 50,000 tonnes of food specialty soybeans from the US duty-free as prices of domestic soybeans have increased 50% during the past six months.

● The government on Monday suspended the power of the Cashew Export Promotion Council to issue or renew Registration-Cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) for cashew kernels, cashewnut shell liquid and kardanol and authorised the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) for the same.
