Kia Ora and Welcome to TAN Week 4 Term 3 Tomorrow is Teacher Only Day. The school will be closed to allow our primary and secondary teachers to meet with their colleagues from the five other Area Schools in Canterbury for professional development. For our teachers to stay current in best practice, they do need to meet with others and share their best ideas. Teachers of NCEA also use the opportunity to check each other’s marking for internally assessed standards, which is part of the quality assurance process for NZQA. Unfortunately on top of this, we have received notification that the PPTA and NZEI have organised Paid Union Meetings (PUMs) to discuss the implications of the government’s school funding review, including “global funding” of schools salaries and operations grant. These are scheduled for Thursday 8th September in Oamaru, and while the school will definitely be open, we are working on ways to implement members’ rights to a paid union meeting, and keep programmes running as normally as possible.
