Cross Country The annual Ariah Park Central School Cross Country will be held on Thursday 28th March 2013 (end of Week 9 Term 1). External Science Competitions We have two state based science competitions available to students. The first competition is the UNSW Science Competition. Cost is $8.80 and registrations will close on the 1st April. It is open from students from year 3 to 12. The second is The Australian Science Innovations competition which is sponsored by Rio Tinto, for students in years 7 to 12. The competition is designed to test critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as scientific knowledge. The cost is $7.70 per student and registrations will also close 1st April 2013. If you wish your child to participate, please fill in the note at the end of this newsletter, enclosing the appropriate sum of money.

Minutes of Previous Meeting The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted as a true and accurate record. M: Tracey Buerckner S: John Worland CARRIED Business Arising Louise O’Dwyer has accepted the secretary position of the P & C N: Michael Denyer S: Sam Dart All in favour - CARRIED Hessian bags are now available for $12 each. John Worland has measured the cement area for painting the games lines but is still waiting on quotes. Alice has decided against conducting canteen survey. Account for shade & wheelie bag is $1524 inc. GST. Account to be handed onto Merilyn McBeath to pay & claim GST component. The P&C will then reimburse the school. Correspondence A letter of support has been written by Peter Harper on behalf of the P & C to accompany a $5000 grant application the school has made. The application is for school student research into the names on the Ariah Park & war cenotaphs. CGU Certificate of Currency for P&C insurance for Fete Day has been received.

A letter was received from the Australian Council of State School Organisations Inc. regarding the David Gonski review. A letter was received from NSW Department of Education & Communities – School Finance regarding School Global Funding. A welfare report was read by Bronwyn Fairman.

School Finance Report No report. Principals Report Peter Morse read the Principals report. Peter announced his retirement and that his last day will be Friday 12th April (last day of Term one). We would like to thank Peter for his time spent at Ariah Park and offer our best wishes for his retirement. May you have many happy travels!

9 Play The Game Peter advised the P & C to elect a representative to sit on the merit selection panel for the Principal’s position as a matter of urgency, due to the time constraints in getting a replacement by the beginning of Term 2. General Business Peter Harper was nominated for the merit selection panel for the Principals position. N: Debbie Worland S: Michael Denyer All in favour - CARRIED Debbie read the Chaplaincy Welfare Program questionnaire to the meeting. It is a requirement of the program that the P & C answer the following questions. 1/ Does the P & C wish to continue to support the Chaplaincy Welfare Program? Answer – yes, very strongly. 2/ Are the Chaplaincy being utilized to their full potential? Answer – Yes. Above and beyond their responsibilities. 3/ What benefits do you see from the Chaplaincy Welfare Program? Answer –They provide a sounding block for staff and children. They provide an outreach to all students with confidentiality and have the respect of students, staff and community as a whole. Peter Morse spoke about the Out Reach – School News Channel. It will enable parents to receive electronic messages such as notification of cancelled sports carnivals and events etc. Those in attendance agreed to proceed with the MGM Wireless Information Pack. The P&C will contribute a one off set up fee of $300.00 and the annual license fee of $3.00 per student per annum. M: Robyn Maguire S: Bronwyn Fairman CARRIED Fete organization is progressing well. It was decided that students could have a mufti day but should still wear school hats. John Worland suggested inviting silent auction sponsors to Ariah Park Bowling Club for a meal to thank them for their continued support of the school. A smorgasbord tea could be held at the Ariah Park Bowling Club and hosted by the P&C. A suggested date was May 2013 and to combine it with a visit from the Temora & District Education Fund Committee. 10 Play The Game Rhonda commented on the state of Brophy Park – sleepers have moved/shrubs dead/path overgrown. As Brophy Park is a public area it was decided that the P & C will approach the council by way of letter to ask if they would consider upgrading/replanting the area. Debbie asked whether the P & C was prepared to cater for the Vintage Horse Trail tea in Ariah Park in 2013. It was decided we would have to decline due to lack of numbers. Debbie to advise Rita. Robert Mutton has asked if the P & C are interested in catering for local bush fires. After some discussion this was declined. Meeting closed @ 10.05pm th Next meeting Tuesday 9 April 2013 at 7.30pm
