On The Move. CITY-BUILDING UPDATE

NEWS FROM THE CITY OF VAUGHAN JUNE 2018

MESSAGE FROM MAYOR BEVILACQUA Vaughan, its people, economy and future are reaching new, exciting and unprecedented heights. This is not the same city that it once was seven years ago when I was first sworn in as mayor. Vaughan is rising to its full potential as a world-class city.

We are celebrated for our transparency, accountability and our leading ethics reforms. Faith in public institutions has been restored.

Our finances are strong. We continue to manage taxpayers’ money responsibly and respectfully. We have a competitive tax rate and we continue to set new records in economic prosperity and job creation.

Businesses and citizens are rallying around the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and celebrating it as a marvel of urban planning and architectural design. Our downtown will be like no other. It will be unique and whether someone is working, living or cycling through one of its many neighbourhoods, people will know they are in a place that is distinct. They will know they are in Vaughan.

We remain the first and only municipality outside to be connected by the TTC subway service and we are an essential part of a regionally-integrated transit network that breaks down barriers and moves people further, faster and where they need to be. Improved public transit connections means businesses can better extend their reach to recruit and hire the best and the brightest minds.

The opening of the subway to Vaughan and the ongoing construction of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital are examples of what we can do when we work together. Cranes continue to tower over the site of the future hospital – a $1.6 billion initiative. It will employ more than 1,800 full-time staff and be the first hospital in to feature fully integrated smart technology Mayor delivers his annual address at the Mayor’s Luncheon systems and medical devices that can speak directly to one another to hosted by the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce to a sold-out crowd of more than maximize patient care. Vaughan continues to do its part with a special levy 800 business professionals – the largest event attendance in the Chamber’s of $80 million to bring modern, accessible, front-line healthcare to our 41-year history. residents. Investing in healthcare is city-building. for myself. I am here to serve the residents of Vaughan and provide a level Vaughan is rising because we have held dear to the importance of putting of service by government that is in the best interest of our citizens. people first. As I have always said, public service is a vocation. I am not here When you walk through our community, and speak with neighbours, it is evident that there is a renewed confidence and faith in our city and what we can be.

Vaughan continues to rise and I look forward to building on our shared successes. The state of our city is strong and exceeding our most ambitious expectations. We’ve only just begun. There is so much more for us to achieve, look toward and reach for.
