After graduating from Macquarie in 2010 Deborah Di Dio was nominated an Australian Youth Ambassador for Development with the United Nations World Food Programme in Bangladesh. The Programme is the UN’s frontline agency in the fight against hunger. After completing her 12-month assignment, she stayed on with the programme as a consultant, working across a number of regional projects in the areas of food security, nutrition and education. “The World Food Programme in Bangladesh is a catalyst of practical hunger innovations,” Di Do says. “There are some truly ground-breaking initiatives here.” Debora Di Dio Master of Development Studies and Culture Change United Nations World Food Programme

Stirred by the plight of its residents, in 2010 Mike Minehan packed up his home in Sydney and moved to Cambodia, a country ravaged by landmines. A former TV anchorman on A Current Affair in Australia, Minehan offered his assistance to the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC). He now works at the centre full-time, shooting video stories, and accompanying experts into the field to destroy mines and explosives. He also pays the salary of a three-person explosive ordnance disposal team and provides financial support to landmine victims. “I see the changes in the lives of victims I help, and receive lists every month of the explosives I pay to have recovered and destroyed.
