ORIENTATION PROGRAMME: - A STEP AHEAD

♣ The inauguration function for orientation programme for new academic year 2018-19 was organised on 10 th July 2018 at 9 A.M. in the college hall.

♣ Prof. Dr J. P. Majmudar was invited as the chief guest for the programme. Our founder trustee prof. Dr Suresh Savani and respected principal Dr. Hetal Mehta also remained present to encourage students. Prof. Dr Butalal Ajmera was guest of honour of the programme.

♣ The programme was started with the prayer of goddess Saraswati by Ms. Khushali Shah a student of B. Com. Semester 5 followed by the auspicious tradition of lighting the lamp by the dignitaries.

♣ Prof. Dr Suresh Savani started the programme by an inspirational speech with a moral story and shared his own experiences of life and then our beloved principal Dr. Hetal Mehta delivered a speech regarding how to channelize the positive energy of the youth.

♣ The chief guest mesmerised the audience by his motivational and positive speech. Sir made the audience feel really energetic after his short but very effective speech.

• Buzz your Jingle competition was organized for the students of Swami Sahajanand College of Commerce and Management. The students had to select one product out of the five products given to them and had to prepare a tag line over the product in 15 minutes of stipulated time. They had to then sing and perform the jingle on the stage in front of the jury. • Students of B.B.A., B.C.A., B.Com., MHRD and M.Com. participated with enthusiasm. • The Ad made Show was organized to give a learning experience to students for the marketing subject, where they can learn how to advertise their product either in the print media or the audio-visual media. • The students of B.B.A., B.Com.., M.Com. and MHRD students participated for this competition. This was a group event where they can participate in the group of minimum 3 and maximum 5 members. The students had to prepare an advertiSemesterent on the product of their choice. ELOCUTION COMPETITION

• Admiration comes easy to a person, who is endowed with the fine art of public speaking, who adorns common thoughts with the grace of elocution, and the elegancy of style. Hence a Elocution competition was organised at the college. The competition was organised on 13 th August 2018. • The competition topics were – Today, Freedom and Sacrifice, Are we really secularist and Main nastik kyun hun? – Bhagat Sinh. The students spoke and expressed their view in very interesting way. QUIZ COMPETITION

• An exciting Inter - Department Quiz Competition was held on 11 th August 2018. The event was held in the college Auditorium and was graced with the presence of Dr. Hetal J. Mehta, the principal who welcome the participants with her best wishes for the competition. • The quiz competition was organised in 2 rounds, 1 st round was a preliminary round where in 50 students were participant and out of it 12 students were to be shortlisted for the second and final round. There were total 4 teams in the final round with 2 members in each team. Every round was a mixed bag with questions from history, sports, language, vocabulary and science. All the students were at the age of their seats to know the answers and the participants were very active. This quiz was truly a learning experience for both the audience and the participants. • The quiz had 4 rounds including question and answer, audio visual round, identify the person and the logo of the company. • The quiz ended with super excitement as there was a tie breaker round. • A patriotic Song Singing Competition was organised on the occasion of 72 nd Independence Day Celebration. Students sang beautiful and melodious patriotic songs in memory of the martyrs of the country and their sacrifice for the motherland. • The judge for the competition was Mr. Pranav Mehta, a well known singer of the Bhavnagar city. There were around 11 participants from different department of the college. • The students were evaluated on song selection, coordination with track, confidence and voice clarity criteria.  The college organised a salad decoration competition for the students of B.B.A., B.C.A., B.Com., MHRD, M. Com. and M.S.W. The salad decoration competition was organised on 24/08/2018. The competition was managed by Mrs. Khyati Mehta and Ms. Radhika Bhatt.  The objective behind the competition was to inculcate healthy food habits and awareness regarding the choice of food among the youth. The participants' creativity was revealed through the beautiful designs and patterns formed with different mouth-watering salad.  The students participated in the group of 2, they were given time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes. CHOCOLATE BOUQUET MAKING COMPETITION

 The competition was organised on 25/08/2018. The competition was managed by Mrs. Khyati Mehta and Ms. Dwiti Mehta. There were 4 teams participating in group of 2. The students were allowed to use decorative materials along with the chocolates and make bouquet out of it.  The participants made various designs adding different craft elements to the bouquet. They made chocolate dolls, chocolate garlands and much more that were worth the efforts they had taken. The student’s enthusiasm was evident as they did all the art with dedication.  The judges for the event were Mrs. Nina Parekh and Mrs. Sangeeta Lakshmi. MEHNDI COMPETITION

• Swami Sahajanand College of Commerce and Management students showcased their talent in Mendi competition held on 25 th August 2018. The competition was managed by Mrs. Khyati Mehta and Ms. Senali Trivedi. The judge for the competition was Mrs. Dhwani Shah and Ms. Dhara Trivedi. The students were evaluated on creativity, originality, neatness and design like criteria. • Irrespective of the exposure and experience, they adorned their hands with mendhi designs which helped them boost their confidence in the art. ECO FRIENDLY GANESH MAKING COMPETITION Students of SSCCM made eco-friendly Ganesh under the ‘Save Environment’ title. Enthusiasm among the students was such high that the entire atmosphere transformed into real old Indian Culture.

Students made Ganesh idols from clay with devotion, passion and creativity. They also get themselves apprised of the ill effects of POP on environment and took pledge not to use POP in future. Hence students made Lord Ganesh idols from mud, clay, quiling papers, flowers and vegetables. The students participated individually as well as in group of 2 or 3. Total there were 8 participating teams for the competition. It has been proved time again that the old rituals of Indian culture are environment friendly. Students were extremely excited to take the Ganesh Idols prepared by them to their homes. Principal of the college Dr. Hetal J. Mehta praised the work and said such initiative should be initiated by all in the society. The competition was supervised by Mrs. Khyati Mehta and Mrs. Kruti Jagani on 14 th September 2018. NAVRATRI COMPETITION

The students of Swami Sahajanand College of Commerce and Management celebrated Navratri in a colourful Dandiya Ras Celebration on the 9th October, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the campus. The entire college community including students, teaching and non teaching staff members participated in the festival in their traditional finery. The programme started with a ‘Aarti’ by Managing trustee Smt. Saryuben Savani, Founder trustee Prof. Dr. Suresh Savani, Principal of the college Dr. Hetal J. Mehta, teaching and non teaching members and students. The tunes and music of garba enlivened the performance of the students on garba and dandiya. Happiness resonated in every move as students and teachers danced together. Prizes were awarded to the best dressed dancers and the best performers. ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATIONS

The 15 th annual day celebration of Swami Sahjanand College of Commerce and Management was organised from 28/12/2018 to 1/01/2019. The celebrations included variety of interesting and full of enjoyment programs like ‘Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke’, ‘Jui Melo’, ‘Dil Ni Zaban, ‘Sasu Vahu Ni 20-20’ and Felicitating the winners and rankers of the college. The annual day celebration is a time of celebration for every student and faculty in the college. It is a platform for the students to show off their skills and talents. It is a time of get together for all faculties where they enjoy working in groups with other faculties and students. Every year SSCCM plans in its own unique style and way a new theme for the annual day celebration. The 15 th annual day celebration was themed as ‘Samanvay – 2019 – Shabdotsav’. Words whether spoken or written leaves a great impact when said from heart. It shows emotions, happiness, anger, feelings, sympathy, etc. So the theme for the 15 th annual day had variety of celebrations for its SSCCM family. •

HUM HAI RAHI PYAAR KE

The invited guest, Chief Guest for the program were Dr. Manohar Thakkar, Principal, G. H. Sanghvi B.Ed. College. Guest of Honour, Prof. Dr. B. K. Oza and Prof. Dr. J. P. Majmudar. The program had students performing on the beats of folk music and bollywood songs and drama. The college was third time champion in Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University, hence the show also included performances by the winners of youth festival. Students show cased their talent by performing raas, western song, classical song, classical dance, duha – chhand and most loved folk music by SSCCM team.

The invited guet, chief guest for the program were Smt. Saryuben Savani, Managing Trustee, Sahjgyan Education Chritable Trust. Guest of Honour, Ms. Kinjal R. Ahalpara, Seattle, America, Ms. Prakruti Savani, Bhavnagar and Dr. Kairavi Joshi, Head, Indian Medicam Association, Bhavnagar Branch, Bhavnagar. The program was poetess recited there poetries in their own unique style and made the environment mesmerising one. The invited poetess were Shri Lakshmi Dobariya, Shri Parul Khakkahr, Shri Yamini Vyas, Shri Gopali Buch, Shri Bhargavi Pandya and Shri Parul Barot. They recited poem on different titles like girl child, feminism, women empowerment, motherhood, self dependent woman, journey from girl to woman and many more.

DIL NI ZABAN

 The invited guest, Chief Guest for the program were Prof. Dr. Mahendrasinh Parmar, Head of the Department, Department of Gujarati, MKBU. Guest of Honour for the program were Dr. Rajiv Mehta, Gastroantrologist, Bhavnagar, Dr. Sujal Parikh and Dr. Manali Parikh, .  The program was anchored and managed by Shri Milind Gadhavi. The poets like Shri Anil Chavda, Shri Bhavesh Bhatt, Shri Bhavin Gopani, Shri Snehi Parmar, Shri Himal Pandya and Dr. Firdaus Dekhaiya. The poets recited their poems and made the environment mesmerising and cheerful.

SASU VAHU NI 20 – 20

The invited guest for the program were, Chief guest Prof. Dr. A. Kumar, Head and Dean, Department of Business Administration, MKBU. Guest of Honour Prof. Dr. Vedant Pandya, Department of Business Administration, MKBU, Dr. Bhavesh Jani, Deputy Registrar (Academic), MKBU and Dr. Jaydipsinh Dodiya, Deputy Registrar, MKBU. The drama was full of comedy between the daughter in law and mother in law, how they share their feelings and emotions in the tough period of their life. They faced a very trageic and turning point of losing their beloved. The students enjoyed the comedy as well as the emotional part of the play gave them a life lesson.

The 15 th annual day celebration not only felicitated the students for their achievements in academics, sports, cultural and co-curricular activities but also show casing the achievements of college, faculty members and students combined effort. The keynote speaker of the program was Padmshri Vishnu Pandya, famous writer, poet, novel writer, journalist, Head of Sahitya Academy. The program included speech from keynote speaker and the chief guest to motivate students for their upcoming academic events, achievements and milestones to be achieved in life. Their moral stories to face the tough period of life. The invited guests also felicitated the rankers and winners of the various competitions held round the year.

WORKSHOP ON MENTORING: FEEDING THE BRAIN, CULTIVATING THE HEART, AND BUILDING COURAGE

The Swami Sahjanand College of Commerce and Management is always keen to develop its students as well as the faculty members of the college. The college plans for different types of workshop and Semesterinar for the development of faculty members. The workshop was organised on 19/01/2019, the invited speaker for the workshop was Dr. Dilip Barad, Department of English, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University, Bhavnagar. He initiated by focusing on as educators, we are privileged to build relationships and help thousands of students reach their full potential each year. let’s be honest that we are in this as a team, so let’s break down that hierarchy of who really is the “teacher” here and who is the “assistant.” We call them learning facilitators regardless of what their duties and responsibilities says.

SESSION ON START SMALL FINISH BIG

A session on ‘Start Small Finish Big’ was organised to cultivate the minds of the faculty members of Swami Sahjanand College of Commerce and Management. The session was organised on 16/02/2019. The invited speaker for the session was Prof. Dr. Nishit Desai, Head, Department of Chemistry, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University, Bhavnagar. He initiated to tell the faculty members how to focus on their career and professional goals as well the organisational goals. A balance, a equilibrium between the two would not only help out to sustain in this competitive era but also help for career development.

SOCIAL INITIATIVES

 Visit to Blind School

The students of M. Com., M.Sc. IT and MHRD visited the Ankur Blind School of Bhavnagar city. The students not only came to know how they managed their daily routine but also they enjoyed playing games and organised a story recitation competition for them. The competition was organised to show off their talents on storytelling and creative writing. The visit was organised on 23/07/2018. Ms. Dwiti Mehta and Ms. Artiba Rana accompanied the students to the blind school.

 Christmas celebration at orphanage home

The students of B.Com. (Hons) and B.B.A. Semester 5 students visited the orphanage home to celebrate with them the Christmas festival. Sharing and caring should be every human’s vital responsibility and duty. The students enjoyed by giving away small gifts and one-minute games. They loved the smile on children’s faces after they saw the Santa clause coming giving away chocolates to all. Ms. Radhika Bhatt and Ms. Senali Trivedi accompanied the students on 25/12/2018.

 Save Water

Being a responsible citizen of the country, every countryman should be aware of its rights and duties. Complaining for the government or to the government does not give solution to itself. Hence it is necessary for all to realise his duties and save Mother Nature and water. As a part of this society, we conducted a Semesterinar on how to preserve rain water and what are the measures to recharge the level of water. On Sunday, 11th Jan 2019, in an endeavour to enhance the awareness about ‘Environment Preservation and Climate Change. The speaker of the day was Shri Harish Chaudhary, an activist by profession and working for NGO in Ahmedabad, who addressed the audience about the scary risk of alarming carbon emission and the importance of energy saving, conservation and adopting alternative energy options.

 Books Distribution

Happiness’ is when you see it on other’s faces. SSCCM donated text books, story books, library books, stationery and toys to the kids of ‘Shaishav’NGO in Bhavnagar city, who is actively participating in eliminating the child labour. The students of B.C.A. and B.Com. (Hons) visited the rural area of Bhavnagar and distributed books among them. Ms. Neelam and Ms. Jagruti Pandya accompanied the other students.

 Eduraft

 Choosing the right kind of education for a child is still an ordeal. Lack of awareness among parents, less visibility of schools/extra- curricular classes and lack of financial prowess or online presence of an institute have led to the situation where parents are crowding only specific schools and classes. The college aims at bridging this gap by providing information about schools and institutes. Semesterinars once a year is organised at the weaker section of the society, in schools or their community, where it is easy to disSemesterinate the information.  The Semesterinar was conducted on 9 th of February 2019. Under the supervision of Ms. Beena Vaghani and Ms. Dharti Patel. Students of M.Com and MHRD actively participated for this Semesterinar.

 Making a difference

 There is no greater joy nor greater reward than to make a fundamental difference in someone’s life. – PNR Society for CP Patients.  SSCCM made a difference in someone’s life and spreading love. They learned the importance of being togetherness and what are the benefits of living together as they now generally have nuclear families.

 World Sparrow day celebration

World sparrow day was celebrated on 19/03/2019. students of students took a pledge to make this planet a better place for sparrows; plant native plants, provide water for them, feed them regularly, put up nest boxes and spread the message of conservation.

 Holi celebrations at government school

The students of SSCCM planned to have the Holi celebrations at one of the government schools of Bhavnagar city. The students distributed sweets and played holi with children. The smiles, the fun and the enjoyment made the festival most memorable one for everyone present there. Ms. Rajvi Kakkad and Ms. Juli Patel accompanied the students for this celebration. The visit was organised on 20/03/2019.
