She previously spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Yale, followed by one season as an associate head coach at Ohio State. Koizumi was a standout and All-WCHA performer at Minnesota-Duluth where she served as a captain for two seasons and registered 87 career goals for seventh all-time in UMD history. In 2008, Koizumi helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the IIHF Women’s World Championship. She continued her playing career in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League and National Women’s Hockey League from 2009 to 2015. Koizumi notched the first goal in the history of the NWHL. ALEX GETTENS ASSISTANT COACH • 2ND SEASON • VERMONT ‘17 Gettens returns to Vermont for his second full season as assistant coach. The 2017 UVM graduate previously served the Catamounts as a student assistant in 2016-17 and assistant to hockey operations from 2014 to 2016. Gettens spent the 2017-18 season at the University of Maine, where he was involved in practice, skill sessions, film sessions, pre-scout analysis, and recruiting as well as community involvement. He and the Maine staff led the Black Bears to a program-best 19 wins. Gettens has also worked as an intern coach at the USA Hockey U15 and U18 National Development Camps. Willard returns to Vermont for the her first season on the coaching staff. A 2018 graduate, Willard recorded the most points (62) by a UVM defenseman in program history. She was a two-time Hockey East Second-Team All-Star (2015-16, 2016-17) and earned Honorable Mention in 2017-18. In 2016-17, she set a single-season program record for most power-play goals by a defenseman (6) and was named a New England Hockey Writers Association Division I All-Star.
