For more information on these and other events, visit www.paxchristi.org EXCITING NEW MASS PROTOCOLS We are pleased to announce the new protocols that we will follow as we worship together at Mass while we navigate the COVID situation. Please take a moment to read through all of these so you understand how we will do things beginning September 1st.

We are making these adjustments after prayerful thought regarding the health and safety of our parishioners, as well as the unity of our family as we worship. Many of these adjustments are at the request of our bishop, or in consultation with the new dean of our deanery, Fr. Gregory Bierbaum. And all have been made with careful consideration of the state and county restrictions. We look forward to worshipping with you soon!

Masks ~ Masks are now only required when moving. Once you are seated for Mass, you may choose to remove your mask. Whenever you leave your pew you will need to put it back on, but you can now worship at Mass without the covering. Remaining masked throughout worship is still encouraged for anyone who feels more comfortable doing so.

Additionally, for those who need extra precautions, the Sunday 8:30am Mass will continue to be mask required throughout. Parishioners who wish to attend with everyone masked should attend at 8:30am. Of course, the bishop’s dispensation is still in place so those who are not comfortable attending in person can still watch the recorded Mass on our YouTube channel.

Sign Ups ~ You no longer need to sign up for Mass! There will be clipboards available for those who are interested in contact tracing. You may add your name and contact information to the list for the Mass that you attend, and you will be contacted if necessary. However, this is entirely voluntary and not required to attend.

Head Count ~ We are still limited to 140 people in the church at a time, so seating will be done on a first come, first served basis. We suggest arriving early. If we have more than 140 people, we will have overflow seating at tables in the Great Hall. Each family will be seated at their own table, and tables are spaced 6 feet apart. The Mass will be visible on the screen in the room, and EMHC reps will come to the hall to distribute communion.

Communion on the Tongue ~ Per Bishop Sheridan’s request, anyone who wishes to receive communion on the tongue may go to the tabernacle following Mass. A trained EMHC will meet you there to distribute communion.

EMHCs ~ Effective immediately, we will need 1 EMHC per Mass to assist Father. However, due to the potential overflow situation, we also ask that ANY EMHC willing to distribute please check in with the sacristan at least 15 minutes to Mass. If you are needed, you will be notified by the sacristan. You will need to sanitize your hands prior to approaching the altar and will wear your mask while distributing. Ministry lead for EMHCs will be in contact with those of you who are already mandated with additional logistics.

Ushers ~ We are in need of new volunteers to the usher ministry. If you are interested, please contact Tony Lopez at [email protected]. ______

Pax Christi - 3 - Littleton, CO CATHOLIC CITIZENSHIP ESSAY CONTEST The are sponsoring an essay contest for our youth. This contest encourages today’s youth to be more connected to their community and their faith. The goal of this program is to involve young Catholics in grades 8 to 12 in civic discourse and instill in them religious and life-affirming values. The essay should be 500-750 words discussing how trusting in God during a difficult time has helped you or someone you know find the strength and hope to endure it. Consider especially those times when it was a challenge to understand why something was happening. Consider also sharing any lessons about faith and hope you or someone you know may have learned from this experience. Entrants will be judged on grammar, style, and how clearly they present the theme in a way that showcases creativity, imagination and overall development of the topic. Submit essays to Brendan Mendus at [email protected] or call 720-641-1894. Deadline to submit essays is December 31, 2020.

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time - 4 - September 6, 2020 Following is an excerpt from one of the many post-abortion testimonies that can be found at www.priestsforlife.org/ testimonies: “I decided to abort my third child. …No thought was given whatsoever to the humanity of the unborn child. … It seemed to me that no one ever suggested that a fetus was anything other than a blob of tissue awaiting some indefinable time at which to become human. Now that I think back on it, it seems as though we had some kind of power to confer humanity. …God’s Word … eventually convinced me of the fact that an unborn child is just that, an unborn child, and not a blob of tissue. … God’s love and forgiveness have healed the wound, but I will always carry the scar. I have become a staunch advocate for the unborn in both word and deed.” That the gift of forgiveness, entrusted to the Church through the apostles, may reach all who have been wounded by abortion. We pray to the Lord. FIVE NON-NEGOTIABLES: These five current issues concern actions that are intrinsically evil and must never be promoted by the law. Intrinsically evil actions are those that fundamentally conflict with the moral law and can never be deliberately performed under any circumstances. It is a serious sin to deliberately endorse or promote any of these actions, and no candidate who really wants to advance the common good will support any action contrary to the non- negotiable principles involved in these issues. 1. Abortion The Church teaches that, regarding a law permitting abortions, it is "never licit to obey it, or to take part in a propaganda campaign in favor of such a law, or to vote for it" (EV 73). Abortion is the intentional and direct killing of an innocent human being, and therefore it is a form of homicide. The unborn child is always an innocent party, and no law may permit the taking of his life. Even when a child is conceived through rape or incest, the fault is not the child’s, who should not suffer death for others’ sins. 2. Euthanasia Often disguised by the name "mercy killing," euthanasia is also a form of homicide. No person has a right to take his own life, and no one has the right to take the life of any innocent person. In euthanasia, the ill or elderly are killed, by action or omission, out of a misplaced sense of compassion, but true compassion cannot include intentionally doing something intrinsically evil to another person (cf. EV 73). 3. Embryonic Stem Cell Research Human embryos are human beings. "Respect for the dignity of the human being excludes all experimental manipulation or exploitation of the human embryo" (CRF 4b) Recent scientific advances show that often medical treatments that researchers hope to develop from experimentation on embryonic stem cells can be developed by using adult stem cells instead. Adult stem cells can be obtained without doing harm to the adults from whom they come. Thus, there is no valid medical argument in favor of using embryonic stem cells. And even if there were benefits to be had from such experiments, they would not justify destroying innocent embryonic humans. 4. Human Cloning "Attempts . . . for obtaining a human being without any connection with sexuality through ‘twin fission,’ cloning, or parthenogenesis are to be considered contrary to the moral law, since they are in opposition to the dignity both of human procreation and of the conjugal union" (RHL I:6) Human cloning also involves abortion because the "rejected" or "unsuccessful" embryonic clones are destroyed, yet each clone is a human being. 5. Homosexual "Marriage" True marriage is the union of one man and one woman. Legal recognition of any other union as "marriage" undermines true marriage, and legal recognition of homosexual unions actually does homosexual persons a disfavor by encouraging them to persist in what is an objectively immoral arrangement. "When legislation in favor of the recognition of homosexual unions is proposed for the first time in a legislative assembly, the Catholic lawmaker has a moral duty to express his opposition clearly and publicly and to vote against it. To vote in favor of a law so harmful to the common good is gravely immoral" (UHP 10).
