Orchid are very lucky to have extremely dedicated Ambassadors who help to raise awareness of male specific cancers and Orchid in their local communities alongside raising vital funds.

We wanted to thank a very special couple Roy and June Dickins who have been supporting Orchid since 2002. In June’s words, she explains how her and Roy came to be involved with Orchid and describes their fundraising journey: “In 2002 my husband Roy’s brother Dennis Dickins died from prostate cancer after a nine year battle with the disease. We have always supported local charities but decided to try and find a charity that dealt with male specific cancer and there we discovered Orchid. We were very impressed with how the charity began and have since become good friends with Colin Osborne co-founder. We try at every opportunity to raise awareness of Orchid and their work, and have helped support and advise several people we have met along the way. We have raised well over £20,000 over the years but Roy’s greatest achievement was his Hairy Monster Challenge. He didn’t have a shave or have his hair cut from 1st January 2012 to the grand Shave Off on 20th July 2013, where he was finally shaved by the actor P H Moriaty. As we got older instead of larger tournaments we raise money by selling anything and everything on eBay, with all the proceeds from sales going to Orchid, and we pay all the fees involved. We also have made numerous donations in memory of friends and family since we started supporting Orchid. We are both very proud to have been made Ambassadors of Orchid and will continue to spread the word.”

If you would be interested in finding out more about how to become an Orchid Ambassador, please visit Orchid website for more information.
