My Dear Parishioners,

Today we celebrate the Lord’s Day and observe the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. Each year after the leave -taking of Easter the Western Church commemorates the theological feast of the Most Blessed Trinity. Our Christian faith teaches us that our God is ONE but has revealed Himself in Three Divine Persons; the Father, the Son Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Our God is a community of persons equal yet distinct. It is God who invites us into communion with Him so that we may share in His divine life now and more fully in eternity.

Community is a sign of unity. Our communion with God and with one another is consummated in our celebration of the Eucha- rist. When we gather each Sunday to commemorate the Lord’s Day at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass the community we form is an outward sign of the faith we share in the One God who has saved us in Christ Jesus His Only Begotten Son. Our desire to be one with God and with each other should be foremost in our lives. Weekly attendance at Sunday Liturgy is the indication of this unity.

The parish community is the family of God and our church is the house we call HOME. As I had announced at the Masses on May 7th and 8th work will begin shortly to paint the church, refinish the floors and refurbish the exterior doors. In addition we will replace the holy water fonts, purchase new chancel furniture and carpets in the sanctuary. This week I will meet with our parish advisory council to discuss the proposals which are being presented to me for the project. I am very excited about the work which will beautify our church and maintain its integrity and sacred character. I know that all of you join with me in the efforts to provide a suitable holy place for the Lord.

I have prepared a mailing to be sent to all those on our parishioner list seeking a one- time donation for our church renovation appeal. The communication is being sent bulk mailing to conserve expenses. When you receive the mailing I hope after prayerful reflection you will be generous in your response to care for Saint Cecilia Church, our spiritual home. I know I can count on you! Our priests are the fathers who lovingly care for us each day. This week we will celebrate Father Marcin’s 5th anniversary of ordination on Monday morning at the 8 o’clock Mass followed by a breakfast at the Saint Francis Center in Denville. Father Marcin has been with me the longest and I am most grateful for all that he does for me and our two parishes.

Last but not least, May 23rd is the one year anniversary of ordination of Father Mateusz. He has not been with us as long a time but He is indeed a joy and a gift to our parish community. To both of our priests we wish them a very happy and blessed anniver- sary. May their service to us and the Diocese be long and filled with happiness!

I look forward to being with you all at next Sunday’s 12:15 Mass at which Father Slawek will celebrate his FIRST HOLY MASS. Following the liturgy everyone is invited to a reception which will take place in Hayes Hall. Your attendance will be a great support for the newly ordained and for the priesthood.

May God bless you! Father Zig

ST. RITA OF CASCIA, Widow May 22—Patroness of Impossible Cases

ST. RITA was born in Spoleto, Italy, in 1381. At an early age she begged her parents to allow here to enter a con- vent. Instead they arranged a marriage for her. Rita became a good wife and mother, but her husband was a man of violent temper. In ager he often mistreated his wife. He taught their children his own evil ways. Rita tried to perform her duties faithfully and to pray and receive the Sacraments frequently. After nearly twenty years of marriage, her husband was stabbed by the enemy but before he died he repented because Rita prayed for him Shortly afterward her two sons died, and Rita was alone in the world. Prayer, fasting, penances and many kinds, and good works filled her days. She was admitted to the convent of the Augustinian at Cascia in Umbria, and began a life of perfect obedience and great charity. Sister Rita had a great devotion to the Passion of Christ, “please let me suffer like You, Divine Savior,” she said one day, and suddenly one of the thorns from the crucifix struck her on the forehead. It left a deep wound which did not heal and which caused her much suffering for the rest of her life. She died on May 22, 1947, and was canonized in 1900 by Pope Leo XIII. PRAYER: God, through the prayers of St. Rita, may we learn to bear our crosses in life in the same spirit in which she bore hers.
