Read Full Release The Bank of Scotland Seaside Town Review tracks house prices in 59 seaside towns across Scotland. The review is compiled using house price data from Registers of Scotland. NOT FOR BROADCAST OR PUBLICATION BEFORE 00:01 27th May 2017 Fraserburgh leads the way for Scotland’s seaside towns with house prices almost doubled in a decade In the past decade, the average house price in Fraserburgh has grown by 95%, from £70,255 to £136,889 – significantly exceeding the 16% increase for all seaside towns in Scotland, according to research from Bank of Scotland. The report reveals that seven of the top ten coastal towns with the biggest house price increases are located in Aberdeenshire, which for much of the period has been well served by the growth in the oil and gas sector. Joining Fraserburgh in the top 10 are; Inverbervie with a rise of £77,013 (62%) from £124,823 in 2006 to £201,837 last year, Macduff (53% increase - from £85,461 to £130,804), Banff (48% rise - from £81,106 to £119,937), Montrose (45% rise - from £87,619 to £127,182), Newtonhill (44% rise - from £150,751 to £217,218) and Peterhead (43% rise - from £84,982 to £121,390) over the same period. (Table 1) Lerwick in the Shetlands saw the second highest growth amongst Scottish seaside towns, rising by £70,081 to £160,689 – an increase of 77%. Other towns outside Aberdeenshire with the next biggest gains include Buckie in Banffshire (45% increase from £84,222 in 2006 to £121,862 in 2016) and Invergordon in the Highlands (43% increase from £80,284 to £114,632 over the same period). However, over the last year, Scottish seaside towns recorded a 3% decrease in average house prices from £150,210 to £145,748, compared to a 3% increase across the UK (£219,645 to £226,916). Although some towns continued to perform well, Invergordon saw the largest house price increase in the last year, going from £98,673 in 2015 to £114,632 (16%). Anstruther (14%), Kirkcudbright (11%) and Skelmorlie (9%) were the other top performers. (Table 2) Graham Blair, mortgage director at Bank of Scotland, comments: "Living on the coast offers many attractions, including a typically high quality of life and attractive surroundings. As a result, property in seaside towns is often very popular with homebuyers. “Over the past 10 years, the strongest performing seaside towns have been on the Aberdeenshire coastline, as the oil industry was experiencing its boom period. East – West divide in Scottish seaside towns The top five most expensive properties are located on the eastern coastline. North Berwick is the most expensive seaside town with an average house price of £314,435. St Andrews is the second most expensive (£300,319), followed by Newtonhill (£217,218), Stonehaven (£214,594) and Inverbervie (£201,837). (Table 3) Nine out of ten of the least expensive seaside towns are on the western coastline. Port Bannatyne is the least expensive in Scotland with an average price of £71,550. All of the top ten least expensive towns have an average price below £100,000. The review is based on house price data from Registers of Scotland for the period 2005 to 2015. HOUSE PRICES IN SCOTLAND’S SEASIDE TOWNS RISE BY £348 PER MONTH IN PAST DECADE The average house price in Scotland's seaside towns has grown by £348 per month since 2005, according to the latest Bank of Scotland Seaside Towns Review. Over the past decade, the average price has grown by 39%, from £108,449 to £150,210 – exceeding the 32% increase for all seaside towns in Britain. Seven of the top ten coastal towns with the biggest price increases are located in Aberdeenshire, which for much of the period has been well served by the growth in the oil and gas sector. Fraserburgh has seen the greatest level of house price growth with a rise of 139% from £63,540 in 2005 to £151,719 in 2015, equivalent to a monthly increase of £735. Macduff also recorded a doubling on average property values (102%) from £66,226 to £133,567, followed by Peterhead (95%), Cove Bay (94%) and Newtonhill (91%). (Table 1) Lerwick in the Shetlands saw the second biggest growth amongst Scottish seaside towns, rising by £81,812 to £159, 325 – an increase of 106%. Other towns outside Aberdeenshire with the largest price increases include Millport (84%) and Campbeltown (69%). A further 22 coastal towns – out of the 59 surveyed – have recorded price increases of at least 50% since 2005.

    Colleagues, As we head towards the festive period, aware that many of you will be working over this time while others head off for a well-earned break. I wanted to write to you all to say thank you for all the hard work you have put in to delivering high quality, person centred services. There have been many challenges but the Partnership has continued to take shape this year with more co-location and new teams emerging. The appointment of Partnership Managers and now all Location Managers mean we will start 2017 under our new structure which has multi-disciplinary location teams at the very cen- tre of everything we do. From 16 January 2017 the new structure, detailed in this newsletter, will be in place. There will be a period of tranisition but I am very pleased to announce this important step. You will also see we have appointed Chris Allan as Clinical Lead, Eunice Chisholm as Lead Nurse and Shona Strachan as AHP Professional Lead. We hope to be able to appoint a Social Work Lead shortly. The IJB has also been busy this year and will be setting their budget early in the new year. I would encourage all of you to look at Aberdeenshire Council’s budget engagement at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/budgetengagement and if you have a spare few minutes over the Christmas period fill in the surveys. The outward leg is an easy stroll along the flat rocky foreshore between the neighbouring settlements of Inverbervie and Gourdon, while the return section ascends onto a steep hillside with fine, open views. Duration: 3 hours. Route Overview Duration: 3 hours. Transport/Parking: Frequent Stagecoach bus services. See timetables. Free parking at walk start/end point. Length: 9.590 km / 5.99 mi Height Gain: 200 meter. Height Loss: 200 meter. Max Height: 132 meter. Min Height: 4 meter. Surface: Moderate. .Good paths and tracks. May be muddy in places. Some walking on paved surfaces. Difficulty: Medium. Child Friendly: Yes, if children are used to walks of this distance and overall ascent. Dog Friendly: Yes, but keep dogs on lead on public roads and near farm animals. Refreshments: Options in Gourdon and Inverbervie. Description This is a very pleasant and invigorating walk along the old Kincardineshire coast between the small coastal town of Inverbervie and the old fishing village of Gourdon. The return leg ascends onto Bikmane (or Gourdon) Hill to take a section of the “Lang Rig”, the old coach road, now a grassy track, that preceded the modern A92 coastal road. In this elevated section, we take a short diversion to visit the Gourdon Long Cairn (known locally as the “War Woof”), a large and elongated Neolithic burial mound, now entirely covered in turf, set in a commanding position overlooking the sea.

    Scottish Invasive Species Initiative Project Case Study Scottish Invasive Species Initiative and Brighter Bervie - Engaging and mobilising a community to manage invasive plant species on the River Bervie Summary The need to control Himalayan balsam and Japanese knotweed along the River Bervie in Aberdeenshire required the engagement and mobilisation of a community volunteering effort and partnership to be effective. The Scottish Invasive Species Initiative met with several community groups from Inverbervie and, through a well promoted public conservation day, succeeded in generating significant community action providing a sustainable mechanism for continued local invasive species removal. The ‘Brighter Bervie’ group were successful in the Keep Scotland Beautiful ‘Beautiful Scotland’ awards and specifically recognised for their work tackling invasive plant species. The community group benefitted from skills training provided by the Scottish Invasive Species Initiative and remain inspired to continue their control work in the future. This partnership model of joint working and community training and capacity building is transferable to any community location – the initial investments and inputs made by the Scottish invasive Species are far out-weighed by the immediate results achieved and sustained commitment of the Inverbervie community to maintain their control efforts. Background The River Bervie is 30km long, starting in the foothills of the Cairngorms and reaching the sea on the north side of the town of Inverbervie. The Bervie currently has two invasive non-native plants growing along it; Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam. Japanese knotweed is present along a considerable stretch of the river in scattered to dense stands whilst Himalayan balsam is less prevalent with small patches at the top of the catchment and in a tributary at the bottom of the catchment by Inverbervie.
