Please return this form to Creative Learning & Community Partnerships via email: [email protected] Or in person at the Box Office or by post to: Liverpool Empire Theatre, Lime street L1 1JE It is important that this form is returned before we can confirm your place at the auditions The Liverpool Empire Creative Learning Team are seeking enthusiastic and talented young people aged 15 – 19 to join our Youth Musical Theatre Company for the academic year 2019 – 2020.

We are looking for 35 young people aged 15 – 19 years (school year 11 and above)

The successful company members will be selected by audition. Participants should have a keen interested in theatre, singing and dance.

The company will be given the opportunity to be involved in a number of full scale productions across the academic year:

 Showcase on 11th January at The Empire Theatre,  Theatre production as part of the National Theatre Connections festival in March.  Theatre Production as part of the National Theatre Connection Festival at The Lowry in April.  Dance Festival performance  Full scale musical production at The Empire on the 28th & 29th August 2020. Intensive rehearsal 17th August – 27th August.

The company meets to rehearse on a Wednesday & Thursday evening. Rehearsal schedules will be provided in advance. Intensive rehearsals may happen during school holidays. A reduced schedule will be in place during exam periods May/June.

Members also get the opportunity to attend masterclasses and theatre trips throughout the year. Auditions will take place on 25th & 26th September, Recall auditions

will take place during the week of 30th September & 7th October with

final casting on the 16th October.

Sessions will begin from 17th October and will run through until August 2020.

Closing date for applications is strictly midday on Monday 23rd October.

Everyone will be notified by email by 6pm on Tuesday 24th September to give exact

time and location of auditions.

You MUST register for an audition by completing and returning an application form.

Auditions are free to everyone who returns an application form.

OTHER USEFUL INFORTMATION – FAQ

1. You will not be required to prepare anything for the first round of auditions. At the

audition you will be taught a short section of choreography, a song and take part in drama based activity. If you are invited to recalls you may be asked to prepare material in advance. 2. Following a successful audition you will be invited to join the company for the full academic year. You will be told the full details about all of the performance opportunities and the commitment required for each one. Some activities will be optional and others will be compulsory as part of your membership. Activities include weekly sessions, masterclasses, showcase performance, residential Dance festival, National Theatre Connections and full scale musical production. Complimentary tickets to performances may be offered subject to availability. 3. Upon accepting your place in the company membership fees will be due. Fees for the academic year will be £460. These will be payable in full. Instalment options will be available. It is your responsibility to ensure that fees are paid in a timely manner and up to date before the end of each term and in full by opening night of the August production. 4. Fees cover your involvement for the full academic year. Optional activities such as theatre trips may incur an additional cost. 5. The Liverpool Empire is committed to providing accessible activities for all. If you have any concerns about payment of fees please contact us as soon as possible. Requests for support for funding should be received prior to the start of term where possible. 6. Participants will attend weekly rehearsals on a Wednesday & Thursday evening each week during term time. An exact schedule will be provided in advance. There will be additional sessions during school holidays. We know that participants have commitments elsewhere and will work to make reasonable adjustments to the schedule, particularly around school/college exams and performances. Attendance for the intensive period of rehearsals for the summer production 17th – 29th August will be compulsory. 7. Masterclasses and workshops. The LEYMTC is part of the Creative Learning Department based at The Empire Theatre. Due to this we are delighted to provide free or heavily subsidised tickets on occasion to our members. We also have exclusive access to masterclasses and workshops throughout the year inspired by our shows or led by our visiting companies such as English National Ballet, Glyndebourne, and The National Theatre. 8. Further description of confirmed performance opportunities, others may become available throughout your membership. We are committed to providing opportunities that showcase our participants based on their individual skill set. You will be offered opportunities and roles based on this. We do not envisage all members will be available for all opportunities. All projects will be rehearsed as part of the weekly sessions, with additional sessions during school holidays as necessary. Please see the note regarding intensive rehearsals in August:

 Dance Performance at Strictly Nugent at FC 2nd November  Showcase Liverpool Empire 10th & 11th January 2020 – be part of our biannual showcase involving participants from all our performing arts clubs.  The National Theatre Connections 2020. Connections is the National Theatre’s nationwide youth theatre festival. Each year it offers a unique opportunity for youth theatres and school theatre groups to stage new plays written for young people by some of theatre’s most exciting playwrights, and to perform in leading theatres across the UK. We will perform in a venue in Liverpool in March 2020. The piece will then transfer to the Lowry on either 4th or 5th April 2020. If selected we may be invited to perform in London in June/July 2020.  Dance Festival (provisional 21st & 22nd March) at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow.  Full Scale Musical at the Liverpool Empire 28th & 29th August. Each year the LEYMTC produce a full scale musical as the final project of the academic year. We are delighted to have secured the rights for an exciting and challenging musical for 2020. Details will be announce in due course in line with our rights agreement with Music Theatre International. Previous titles have included Billy Elliot Youth (2011), Les Miserables Schools Editions (2012), Footloose (2013), (2015), Fame (2017), In the Height (2018) and (2019). Due to the size of this project attendance is compulsory for the intensive rehearsal period 17th August – 29th August.
