JOE GRUSHECKY SOMEWHERE EAST OF EDEN Somewhere East of Eden is Pittsburgh rocker Joe Grushecky’s 17th album to be released since the critically acclaimed debut album from the Iron City Houserockers in 1979. The album is rife with characters embroiled in struggle. They are doing their utmost to remain one step ahead of whomever or whatever is chasing them, standing their ground, and fighting for a better life.

The album was recorded just across the Pennsylvania state line in Weirton, West Virginia at long time co-producer Rick Witkowski’s Studio L. The resulting album runs the gamut of musical styles from the searing blues rock guitar riffs of “I Can Hear The Devil Knocking” to the tender crooning of the Drifters' Atlantic soul classic, “Save The Last Dance For Me.”

Other highlights include the venerable gospel/blues stomper with a call and response chorus, “John The Revelator”. The album’s title song, "Somewhere East Of Eden,” is about an Iraq war veteran and the problems he faces in returning home while trying to keep the “monkey on his back” from dragging him down. “Who Cares About Those Kids” and the “First Day Of School” are both based on Joe’s real life experiences In his day job as a special education teacher. “When Castro Came Down From The Hills” is a love story set during the turmoil of the Cuban Revolution in the 1950’s. “Still Look Good (For Sixty)” is a tongue in cheek look at attempts to stay one step ahead of Father Time. “Magnolia” is a ballad about an unrequited love. “I Was Born To Rock” is a declaration of independence from the drudgery of 9 to 5, and “Prices Going Up” is a story of survival in rough economic times.
