Be An ICE Volunteer!

Did you know that the ICE conference will be at a new location this year? Even with the new location volunteers are needed to help? The ICE conference is made possible by people like you willing to give of their time? You need NOT be a technology wizard to volunteer?

Indiana Computer Educators is composed of individuals willing to give up their time for others. It is a fun and satisfying experience, and what better place to meet and learn new technology information than by working with others love learning about technology in the classrooms. And yes, here’s the pitch. . . We need individuals who are willing to volunteer a little of their time to help make this conference a success. Volunteers are need with setting up before hand (although even this will be minimal), manning the information/directional tables, assisting at the registration area, and more.

Would you consider lending a hand? Please contact Pat Waterman, [email protected] or [email protected] and get your name on the list.

Thanks for volunteering!!

News From The Indiana Department of Education

The Indiana Department of Education invites all educators to register for an account on the Learning Connection (https://learningconnection.doe.in.gov ).

Nearly 100% of school corporations have identified a local administrator as a point of contact for the Learning Connection and over 13,000 educators have already registered for accounts. Many (about 350) groups are forming within the Learning Connection around a variety of topics and the Department is transitioning its listservs to this platform as well. As a teacher, you can:

• Access academic performance data of the students you serve. This includes the growth model data that shows not only whether or not a student passed ISTEP+ but also indicates how much academic progress they made relative to their peer group. • Connect to other educators across the state • Find, create, manage, and share content with other educators • Have your own class web site that is accessible to parents and students

For more information about the Learning Connection, visit the web site or attend an upcoming webinar (see the schedule here ).

Are You A Real Teacher?

Real teachers buy aspirin and ibuprofen in bulk. Real teachers will eat anything that is put in the workroom/teacher’s lounge. Real teachers know that secretaries and custodians run the school. Real teachers never teach the conjugations of lie and lay to eighth graders. Real teachers have been timed gulping down a full lunch in 2 minutes, 18 seconds. Master teachers can eat faster than that. Real teachers drive older cars owned by credit unions. Real teachers know the difference among what must be graded, what ought to graded, and what probably should never again see the light of day.

AMEN! - Have a great school year. See you at ICE 2010!
