OSHPDs financial analysis tool allows you to explore historical hospital finances in a simple . The main view, depicted here, includes a graph, legend, and various controls to view expenses and revenues by cost centers, other filters include type of care, drillable geographic locations, ownership type and licensed bed size.

The title of the graph is on top left panel with the account type selector and description displayed above the graph. Reports are pre-filtered to show only Comparable Hospitals. If you would like to see non-comparable hospitals such as Kaiser, psychiatric health facilities, long-term care emphasis, or other non-comparable facilities you can use the filter under Type of Hospital to select the data of most interest to you.

To focus on specific data — like an expense or revenue type, or a combination — use the menu on the side panel. The "Broken Down By" allows you to specify which breakdown you want the graphs and table rows to represent on the graph. The "Filtered By" shows you the hierarchical relationships of Payer, Healthcare Systems, geographic locations, ownership types, hospitals by bed size and area cost centers.

In the "Filtered By," you can see cost centers with generated revenues, while those that do not create revenues are greyed out. The same is true for expenses.

When the filter function includes LOCATION in the list of filters: CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAIL ON FILTERING FOR LOCATION (COUNTY, CITY, FACILITY)

There are five graph types overall: an area graph, an area graph by percentage, a line graph, a pie graph, and a table. You can share any view on a social network or by email. There are also options to download the displayed data in .csv spreadsheet and .png image formats.

Grid Reports allow you to explore non-financial and aggregated data in a simple user interface. The main view, depicted here, includes a grid with various controls to view all or individual expenses.

There is a search bar located at the top of the screen. This search bar allows you to search for any text across the grid.

There are many ways to apply filters to the grid data. You may use the Filter panel located to the left of the report. You can also click on the filter for a specific column to apply a filter or change how to define data in the legend by changing the “Broken Down by” drop-down.

When the filter function and the dataset do not include a county name: SEE HERE & HERE FOR INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILTERING BY COUNTY

At any point, you are able to visualize the data, or display a graphical representation of the data, in the grid. To do this, click on the Visualizations on the left hand side of the screen. The visualization will show total amounts, grouped by year, if appropriate.

You can share any grid view via social media or through email. There is also the option to download the source data or a subset of the source data as a .csv spreadsheet in the Download menu.
