The APR was introduced by the NCAA to determine student-athletes’ term-by-term eligibility and retention. In essence, it is an indication of the academic foundation of a program (taking into account both grades and retention).

The GSR, also introduced by the NCAA, calculates the percentage of student athletes who graduate from a program over a 6-year span.
