Jonathan Bernier earned his ninth straight win at home, matching the record for the longest home winning streak by a goaltender in Avalanche/Nordiques history (Dan Bouchard, 1983-84).

Nathan MacKinnon extended his streak to eight games (7g, 9a), and with his assist on Tyson Barrie’s first-period , notched his 80th point of the season, becoming the first Avalanche player to reach the 80-point mark since 2006-07 (, 100 and Andrew Brunette, 83). MacKinnon leads the NHL in points per game (1.35) and is the NHL’s leading scorer at home with 59 points (23g, 36a). His 81 points are tied with Claude Giroux and Connor McDavid.

MacKinnon also recorded his 23rd multi-point game of the season, the most by an Avalanche player since Joe Sakic had 28 in 2006-07.

Tyson Barrie’s first-period tally was his 10th of the season, making him only the fourth defenseman in Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history to register 10+ goals in four different seasons (2013-14, 13; 2014-15, 12; 2015-16, 13). , John-Michael Liles and Sandis Ozolinsh also did it four times. Soderberg now has three game-winning goals this season, which matches a career high he’s reached twice, in 2013-14 and 2014-15 with Boston.

Mikko Rantanen recorded his 17th multi-point game of the season and eighth in which he’s tallied 3+ points. Of those eight performances, seven have come on home ice. Rantanen’s 46 assists this season are the most by an Avalanche right wing since tallied 48 in 2002-03.

Colorado finished 4-for-4 on the kill and is now 100-for-108 (92.6%) on the PK at home this season, the top-ranked home penalty killing unit in the league. The Avs have allowed a league-low eight power-play goals in 2017-18.

David Warsofsky registered his first point in an Avalanche sweater.

The Avs and Coyotes combined for four goals in the opening 4:22 of the first period, the fastest four goals to begin an NHL game since Feb. 26, 1997 (Philadelphia Flyers 8, Ottawa Senators 5).

Colorado RW Mikko Rantanen On Today’s Game: “We were talking about having a good start like we usually have at home and that’s what we did, 3-1 lead after the first. I think second period, we were a little bit too sloppy and let the Coyotes back [in] to the game. But, talking [during] second intermission about playing simple hockey again and not giving them any chances so the third period was great for us.”

On The Third Period Power-Play Adjustments: “Probably just get a little bit more puck movement, a little bit sharper passes and get more shots. I think that [is] the biggest key if you want to succeed on the power play and that’s what we did in the third.”

Colorado D Tyson Barrie On Today’s Game: “We knew how big of a game it was coming in, like the rest of them are going to be, but we played a good first period and we kind of had a bit of a let down in the second. I thought they took it to us a bit and then we came in, had a and knew it was so important for us to have a big third period and I think that’s exactly what we did. We beared down and guys stepped up.”

On His Goal: “It was a great play by Nate (Colorado C Nathan MacKinnon) just to go through the seam. I was originally going to look to maybe find a high tip or something but it bobbled on me so I didn’t really have much of a choice. I just tried to get a good puck on net and it was lucky it found its way through.”

Colorado LW Gabriel Landeskog On Getting The Win: “A lot of people are waiting for us to fall apart, I think that’s been the story all year, but we’re finding ways to win hockey games and guys are stepping up. You know, we realize where we are and what opportunities we have and we are trying to make the most of it.”

On The Emotions Of The Game: “Both teams want to win, both teams play hard. You know, that’s how we play the game with emotion and that’s how you have to play it as well. I don’t really know what happened with that situation (Colorado RW Sven Andrighetto and Arizona D Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s matching minor penalties) in particular, but I thought we answered the right way.”

Arizona LW Richard Panik On Arizona’s Performance: “We tried to put everything on net and hopefully something will go in. I think we did a great job the second period, but the third one we just didn’t have the power or energy to get more shots on net or just make something around the net.”

On Today’s Game: “It was a good hockey game. They are battling for playoffs, and we don’t want to play the rest of the games just for fun, we want to compete and I think it was entertaining to watch but too bad we came up short.”

Arizona LW Jordan Martinook On Arizona’s Performance: “They came out skating, and obviously it took us probably 10-15 minutes to catch up to them. But I felt like once we started moving our feet, because we weren’t doing that in the first part of the game, we started moving our feet and it was a pretty even game. Even on parts of it I felt like we were dictating the pace.”

On The Third Period: “You look at the way we have been playing, and its 3-2 going into the third period I think everyone in this room is exuding confidence in those situations. When it’s 3-2 going into the third, I think every guy in this room expects to put a push on them and try to win the game. That was no different tonight, we just fell short.”
