11/2 Big Lady 8 Comical Lass, Tudor Wood, Winter Nights 9 Nightmare 16 Giant Of Love, Queens Logic, Sofa 18 Maitus 20 Tinkertailorsoldier 25 Forever Friends, Santos 33 King Singh, Middlesbrough, Talk To Her 40 Sentinel Feizor 50 Crazy Donkey 66 Aberdeen Park, Carbine, Danceing Minstrel, Electrocutiionist, F Nine, No Q O Junk, Qaqas 100 La Bella Rosa, Mr Fisher

Another large field assembled for the running on the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown. Many chances here and Leopardstown is a tight twisting track with a very short straight that might unglue a few of the top fancies. Already the trainers of the two favorites Big Lady and Comical Lass have shown their reservations about their charges chances here. Have a feeling an upset may be on the card in this race and going the way of Talk To Her to roll them all at 33 to 1. Ran a smart sixth in the Juddmonte and the track and her racing style is perfect for Leopardstown. Nightmare appeals as a horse with a chance and Giant of Love ran a cracker last week. Tudor Wood and Winter Nights deserve a mention with Tudor Woods a big chance if she decides to race prominently. A lot of interest will be in the nomination of Queens Logic. Has huge wraps and the trainer wouldn’t be entering her if she didn’t have a chance. Going Talk To Her at big odds from Tudor Wood and Queens Logic.

Chance if see 18f out 105 Makybe Diva (13) Dave Fuller M Fenton 8-6 3yo Filly Prefers: Good 2m3f 20 Back to set weights is a huge chance. Top class Iron Horse and one to beat

7/2 Makybe Diva 5 Fota Star 7 Stratagem 8 Black And Yellow 16 Heart Breaker, Imigin 20 Dawn Assault, Giants Cause, Tough Going 25 Best Desert, Caradhras, Craigy, Hasty 33 Afleet, Glendenner, Hava Saab, Make Way Donkeys, Torino 50 Moonax The Biter 100 Acquainted

Smart field assembled for the running of the Doncaster Cup headed out by Ascot Gold Cup winner Imigin. She carries a 10lb penalty for this however and will find it tough going conceding that sort of weight here. She is a smart type nonetheless and a place wouldn’t surprise. Dawn Assault finished third in the Ascot Gold Cup and looks a smart type but has a 4lb penalty and might find this trip a little short. Black and Yellow, Heartbreaker and Stratagem are three horses who will appreciate the set weights here and expect a form reversal from them. The finished 1-2-3 in a listed 18f contest in week 6 against a lot of these. However, the two horses that dominate the betting here are week 8 inclusions, Makybe Diva and Fota Star. Makybe Diva won well over 18f at debut in week 8 with Fota Star running down the track that day. Last week the two of them along with most of this field clashed in a 17f handicap where Fota Star ran out a very easy winner. Although winning impressively by 6 lengths, Fota Star will meet her four major rivals between 20lbs and 28lbs worse off today and that is a huge leveller. In that race, Makybe Diva ran well for fifth and will appreciate the extra ground more than her other rivals. Based on her week 8 win at set weights she is the tip to salute here. Black and Yellow appeals as a chance to hit form again and Stratagem will love the lack of weight on her back this week. Makybe Diva from Black and Yellow and Stratagem.

01503 Whipsno (9) Steve Coulson M Dwyer 8-13 2yo Colt Prefers: Good 1m 1 A good third in last weeks Gimcrack but carries a penalty for that and will need to improve again. 00706020 Ellisons Ball (22) Chris Stoddart J Quinn 8-10 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 7f 2 Surprise second in Vintage Stks two runs ago. May find things happening a bit quick here. Craig Stares T P Queally 8-10 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 6f 4413 Northern Lights (14) 3 Ultra-consistent filly and nailed on for first three. Carries a penalty though. Padraig Hogan L P Keniry 8-10 2yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 6f 22 Ring Of Fire (23) 4 Solid form in the book and open to improvement. Should be right in the shake up. Dodgy Dave T Quinn 8-10 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 7f 5 511280 Uro (21) Second in Queen Mary but found life tough since. Has something to prove with a penalty. Jason Valler N De Souza 8-10 2yo Filly Prefers: Softish 5f 6 178 Voodoo Ray (15) Won Cherry Hinton f.t.o. but disappointed in two runs since. Not to be dismissed. Mark Jones D Holland 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 5f 7 54330548 Lancet (17) Ran well without winning earlier on this season. E/W possibilities. Jim Donaldson L Dettori 8-3 2yo Colt Prefers: Good 6f 8 0000000 Alanya (18) Only making up the numbers here it would seem. Colm O'Dea A Munro 8-3 2yo Colt Prefers: Softish 6f 9 4000 Fabio (8) Seems to be better over this six than five furlongs, though improvement is needed to figure here. James Ball R Ffrench 8-3 2yo Colt Prefers: Good 7f 10 6010846 Knapper (4) Decent sixth in the Gimcrack last week on his first try at 6f. E/W possibilities Richard L S Drowne 8-3 2yo Colt Prefers: Good 6f 11 000 Whole Lotta Rosie (20) Odds on to finish last in this race. Mike Smith S Hitchcott 8-3 2yo Colt Prefers: Good 7f x Zeus (7) 12 First run for an inexperienced trainer. Will need to be good. Mike JRG J P Murtagh 8-0 2yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 6f 07000000 Arctic Fox (19) 13 Another who must improve big time to have a chance. Ricky Campbell M Fenton 8-0 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m x Drag Queen (11) 14 Could be anything on debut from a stable that certainly knows how to handle decent horses. Tim Southern C Haddon 8-0 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 6f 99 Fairfax Flicker (1) 15 Trip/Ground should suit but down the field in two runs so far, needs to improve. Nick Noone P Makin 8-0 2yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 6f x Fanyana (2) 16 First run for an inexperienced trainer. Will need to be good. Dave Hooley P Mulrennan 8-0 2yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 1m1f 13 Five Star (10) 17 Lightly raced filly who has done little wrong. Could well be in the shake-up. Darren Young G Gibbons 8-0 2yo Filly Prefers: Softish 7f x Flying Cloud (6) 18 Will need to be smart to win at the first time of asking. Frank I Mongan 8-0 2yo Filly Prefers: Softish 1m 31284704 Lang (3) 19 Rarely runs a bad race and escapes a penalty today. Every chance. 0 Network (13) Terry Black J F Egan 8-0 2yo Filly Prefers: Firm 6f 20 Down the field on only run so far. Needs to improve but may do so. 90378690 Omer (12) Richard Wood S W Kelly 8-0 2yo Filly Prefers: Softish 1m1f 21 Inconsistent sort who may make the frame but I cant see this winning. 7500 Stunning Edge (5) Dave Fuller K Mcevoy 8-0 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m 22 Trainer is losing patience with her and needs to improve on recent efforts. 90 Sweetie Pie (16) Lee Cara W Supple 8-0 2yo Colt Prefers: Good 1m 23 Needs to improve big time to be in the money here.

3 Five Star 8 Drag Queen, Northern Lights, Ring Of Fire 12 Lang, Voodoo Ray 16 Omer, Whipsno 20 Knapper, Lancet, Uro 25 Ellisons Ball 33 Fabio, Fanyana, Flying Cloud, Network, Stunning Edge, Zeus 50 Arctic Fox, Fairfax Flicker, Whole Lotta Rosie 66 Alanya, Sweetie Pie

A good race this but no standout horse on the book. Uro, Lang, Five Star and Northern Lights should all be there when push comes to shove, but RING OF FIRE, second in her two runs so far in good races, may be able to build on them and take this on the way to greater things later in the season, despite the penalty.

Steven Fisher J Quinn 9-3 3yo Colt Prefers: Good 1m5f 0 Aldon (16) 3 Well down the field on debut in a maiden, outclassed. Nick Noone T E Durcan 9-3 3yo Colt Prefers: Good 1m4f 8 Perlascombes (3) 4 Fair effort on debut over 1m4f, will this trip suit? Richard L D Mckeown 9-3 3yo Colt Prefers: Good 1m6f 5 637 Russian Dancer (5) Good form so far this season, this trip is likely to suit. Jim Donaldson F P Ferris 9-3 3yo Colt Prefers: Good 1m4f 6 0007 Wee Robbie (10) Highly tried, looks outclassed Mike JRG S W Kelly 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 1m4f 7 383 Aurora (14) Placed over this trip, outside chance. Steve Clarence D Gibson 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Softish 1m4f 8 x Awsome Again (13) Make debut at the highest level for rookie trainer, best watched. Richard Wood C Haddon 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m6f 9 1 Black Penny (2) Distance winner in week 1 from a top yard, most have a chance. Craig Stares N De Souza 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m4f 10 8900 Bundy (15) Highly tried but not up to this class on form. Dave Hooley J P Spencer 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 1m4f 11 0333 Miss Shakira (8) Good efforts over this trip recently, up in class but have to respect trainer. Colm O'Dea R Kingscote 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 2m2f 470 Mysterious Lady (4) 12 Not progressed since debut, likely to be outpaced. Dave Fuller R Hills 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m4f 3161 Red Anchor (7) 13 Top class, Best form on show at 1m4f so will this 1m6f bring out her best? Jason Valler T Quinn 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m7f 1 Stratafan (11) 14 Impressive maiden winner, can she handle the hike up in class tho. Frank F Lynch 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m5f 0124 Tworail (6) 15 Handicap winner who tries group 1 for the first time, outside chance. Chris Stoddart F Norton 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m6f 098 What Women Want (17) 16 Midfield in its handicap runs so far, looks outclassed. Dodgy Dave D O`neill 9-0 3yo Filly Prefers: Softish 1m6f 7021010 Zak (9) 17 Fair stayer, not without and ew chance.

5/2 Red Anchor, Stratafan 7 Albkos 10 Black Penny 12 Tworail 20 Miss Shakira, Mysterious Lady, Russian Dancer, Zak 25 Aurora, What Women Want 50 Acamas, Bundy, Perlascombes, Wee Robbie 66 Aldon, Awsome Again

Red Anchor offers the best form by far on show today but will she be at her best over this trip? Black Penny has beaten Albkos before and there is no reason why the form should be reversed. Its hard to split Miss Shakira, Tworail & Zak on there handicap runs. Stratafan was an impressive winner in a maiden and looks to have the beating of 3 mentioned previous through mansizz. Russian Dancer catches the eye as an outsider who should be suited by this trip. Given that Red Anchor’s only below average run was when she was stepped up to 1m5f (tho giving 10lbs weight away) make her beatable but i still expect her to beat Stratafan and Black Penny.

Big chance if the step up in distance suits. Dodgy Dave D Mckeown 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 1m1f 907 Baco Du Cassou (2) 3 Needs to step up on all known form to figure here. Colm O'Dea G Gibbons 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 6f 0249000 Bell Chimes (15) 4 Decent filly on earlier form but will probably be outclassed here. James Ball T Eaves 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Firm 1m1f 5 x By Miles (4) Trainer could have picked an easier starting point for this horse so he must think something of it. Padraig Hogan F Norton 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 1m1f 6 20 Certifiable (14) Excellent run on debut but disappointed last time. Should improve and is certain to stay. Tim Southern N De Souza 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 7f 7 00 Champagne (9) Down the field in both runs so far. Needs to improve. Richard L D Holland 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 6f 8 9049 Evening Star (3) Fourth in Vintage stakes and steps up to a mile for the first time here. Richard Wood C Catlin 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m3f 9 0414002 For A Second (1) Ran well last week under big weight. A repeat of that may see her in frame. Chris Stoddart F Lynch 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 7f 10 07 Genius (6) Needs to step up on her two runs so far. Frank P Robinson 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m2f 11 439 Get Me (10) Good runs in two maidens before slightly disappointing last time out. E/W chance. Lefty Lemas J Quinn 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 1m 0907006 Gift Of Magic (16) 12 Another who needs to step up on form to be in the first ten. Dave Hooley M Dwyer 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m 1164 Golden Act (7) 13 Versatile filly who has already won over 6f and a mile. Winner of Margaret Stakes has a huge chance. Steve Coulson J Fanning 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m1f 7 Miswis (17) 14 Decent debut and has glamorous entries. Unraced for six weeks and clearly highly thought of. Craig Stares C Haddon 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Firmish 6f 00000000 New England (5) 15 Dreadful form so far; no chance. Ricky Campbell I Mongan 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m 800 Palace Queen (11) 16 Below par form in last couple of runs. Must improve to figure. Steven Fisher S Golam 8-6 2yo Filly Prefers: Good 1m 0 Veronata (13) 17 Midfield in Lowther. Needs a big lift here

5/2 Golden Act 4 Cute Fillie 8 Goldisk 12 Certifiable 16 Evening Star, Miswis 20 For A Second, Get Me, Palace Queen 25 Baco Du Cassou 33 Genius, Gift Of Magic, Veronata 40 New England 50 Bell Chimes, By Miles 66 Champagne

Easy to rule out the majority of the field here and it comes down to two or three. Goldisk won the Lowther and there appears to be no reason to see why she wont stay the trip; she was second on debut over 1m, but this may go down to the two big guns, Golden Act and Cute Fillie. The former won at a mile on debut and was dropped back in trip to win the Margaret Stakes after that. She has every chance but may find CUTE FILLIE a bit too classy, who runs top class races week in, week out. A highly honourable fourth off top weight in a handicap last week over a mile proves she stays, and she can take this from Golden Act. Certifiable may be best of the rest.

Very hard to go past Dark Fantasy here. Comes from the same stable as Black Wing and the trainer says its two lengths better than her!!! That is a huge statement and should cream this lot on that assessment. Weighted very nicely here as well. Second and third looks a little more difficult. Simeon and A Girls Best Friend appeal as good lightweight chances and Purple Haze, Need for Speed and Bullet have all shown consistent form with the best of them. Selections here are Dark Fantasy as a moral from Simeon and Bullet.

Reasonable sort of handicap field assembled. Looks a race made for the likes of Ponsonby however. Has a nice weight and is group two placed. Sure Mystery, the handicappers choice, has a whopping 8-11 on his back this week. Has smart form but is starting to get up in the weights and a place appeals here. Egami is the one down the weights that looks the goods here. Has two excellent placings early in the season and no weight here. Might be coming back to form if last start seventh is anything to go by. Baccata is consistent but getting up in weights. Place is preferred but looks between these four. This race has been dominated by one horse Crazy Fillet since Golden Age withdrew from the field for a much weaker handicap. Crazy Fillet looked very impressive accounting for gimcrack winner Goldisk and co at his debut and looks perfectly placed in this field. Looks a colt of exceptional quality. Of the others Balakheri Falcon, Chelsea Bridge and Anna Dell are the only ones with any sort of form but places look best for them. Boris the Spider is an interesting debut runner from the Hooley camp and could emerge as the biggest threat to Crazy Fillet but hard to go past the favorite here. Fantastic field assembled for the sprint cup with the first five home in the July Cup clashing again with a couple of other useful types. Not much seperated Strong Cat, Missile Sudski, Catching Katie, Too Many Mates and Ireland Forever that day. Add to the mix Grand Grey who easily accounted for Too Many Mates on a softish track and another hotly fought contest has evolved. There was a lot to like about the way Grand Grey won and I thnk she has what it takes to roll the big guns here and notch her trainers first group one. Grand Grey from Missile Sudski and Strong Cat in a blanket finish with a length covering the first six.

Very open race. Standout horse on class in Bleak Outlook but with 10 stone her name pretty much reflects what sort of chance she has. When searching for a winner here, the main factor used was the softish track form. Two horses, down the bottom end of the handicap stand out here for this. Abeesh has excellent soft track form and Extraordinary was an impressive last start winner at his first start in the mud. Cagney is an interesting runner. Down the weights and her best effort to date was on her preferred softish ground when 12th in the Falmouth. Of the others down the weights, Bagel sneaks into the field with nothing on its back and can give this a shake and Streamer and Liathroidsneachta ran one- two in the William Hile mile and if they handle the wet track must be respected here. The most interesting runner however is the Ricky Campbell trained Moon God. First up failed over 12f, second up failed over 10f and has a preferred distance of 7f and likes softish tracks. He knows how to breed a top class miler and is a huge watch here. Cant go for anything weighted higher than 9 stone. Tips here are Moon God from Abeesh and Streamer.

Extremely hard to see past the top three in the betting for a winner. Golden Age is tipped to take this despite conceding weight all round with a closely fought battle for second place between Night Bells and Roca. Night Bells should return to form back over its favoured trip and grab the second place with Roca in a close third. The best of the rest is Hazz and could be a big price at 28/1 and spring a surprise.

Very ordinary field going around for the Mallard. If it was run at set weights Machiavellan and Anazzak would destroy them but both have huge weight burdens here. With doubts over the ability to stay the trip with half of the field, this could be set up for an upset. As mentioned, Machiavellan and Anazzak are the two class horses of the field. They will see the distance out but will find it tough with so much weight on their back. Zail, Kiwi Town and News are useful types but all have doubts at the distance. Straw Bear has huge wraps but hasn’t raise a whimper to date and looks very ordinary. Musicman has a win on the board but was shocking in his one run over 14f to date. Pretty much leaves two horses to fight this out in my view. Altostratus and the lightly weighted Java. Both look like the 14f trip is ideal with Altostratus already a winner over the distance. He gets the nod here. Altostratus from Java and one more chance for Straw Bear in third.

An even field has been assembled for the Ayr Gold Cup with many chances. Run on a soft track, this has been used as the deciding factor in the final selections here. In week 7 two horses clashed in the Wokingham at Ascot. That day Old Lane just beat Bountiful home. They are tipped to run one-two again in this field, with Bountiful on top. Although the formlines of both horses do little to inspire confidence, the overall strength of the field is weak. Three horses have a softish track preference in the race, Spot who is terribly weighted, Old Lane who although up in the weights, is not too bad overall and Regal Agenda who comes from a developing stable. Of those with exposed form on a softish track, Bountiful ran a very close second on her one softish start and Kadike has shown a liking for the surface with a third in the Lincoln. Hard to go past the exposed form on softish tracks and Bountiful with her featherweight appeals over Old Lane and Kadike rounding out the placings.

All the form in this race belongs to the two year olds but not a great fan of two year olds squaring off against older sprinters. Polaris Sudski, Lost Note and Dayjur are all smart types and will love the softish ground but can they outpace the older horses? That is the million dollar question here. I am sticking my neck out here and saying no. History shows two year olds generally struggle in these types of contests. Therefore the question now is who will beat them. Celtique looks the clear pick of those to have raced and Test has a high opinion from his trainer and is a winner already. However, the one I am tipping to roll them all is a debutant from the smart Ricky Campbell stable in Sharp Cat. He knows how to train a sprinter and the horse will like the soft going. Going for Sharp Cat to salute from Celtique and Test.

Couple of interesting debutantes step out in this first distance maiden for the 2yo’s in Song for Ireland and Veandercross. Song for Ireland has been well touted by her trainer but so has most of his squad and we know how they have run. Will reserve judgment here. The other is Veandercross and is a full sister to dual group one winning Red Anchor. Trainer says she is first class but not a fan of soft going but needs to be respected nonetheless, on the efforts of her sister alone. Pest looks the other debutante with a chance as his trainer Dodgy Dave has produced some smart types mid season. Of those to have raced, four of them stand apart from the pack. Certain Victory, Star Wonder, Lemon and Oh So Sharp all have form on the board. However, of these, Certain Victory looks like the one to benefit most from a soft track. Star Wonder has a preference for firmish tracks and may come unstuck in the mud and Lemon and Oh So Sharp, although having useful handicap form, have done so off very low handicaps and doubts remain over their class at set weights. Hard to go past Certain Victory here as has everything in her favour from Star Wonder and Veandercross.

Time to spin the wheel and hope a winning number comes up. The magic formula appears to be to look for a well weighted horse, ideally with four legs, and one gear other than reverse. On that basis, Magic Bengie fits the bill – third in this company last start and neither of the top two appearing this week. Adblips also looks like it’s seeing the handicapper on the side while Face the Limelight and Nuwara Something will do the better of the top weights.
