2 FromFrom thethe DirectorDirector General’sGeneral’s DeskDesk The year in review Time and tide wait for none is a maxim proven again and again. Yet its essence escapes us, and time flies by while we are still busy in deep considerations. It’s like only yesterday we were talking about this and that to be accomplished during the year and, we are already saying adieu to the year and replacing the calendar. This is a moment for looking back and taking stock, looking inward and accounting, while making merry on the outside. With the kind support of the Union Ministry of MSME, the Institute has received the maximum targets under the Ministry’s flagship programme, the ATI scheme, to empower the youth of the country through entrepreneurship and skill development programmes for taking up self-employment. Food processing sector was intensely focused, with workshops and awareness programmes being conducted in a big way, for the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh as well as for other southern states. The Institute has been entrusted the privileged responsibility of certification for the Govt. of AP’s prestigious programme Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu. The live projects by the B.Tech/MCA students have more than doubled during the year as against the previous year. Similarly, live projects in management courses also had recorded an impressive rise. A proposal is being finalised to introduce video conferencing and e-learning to facilitate the monitoring of the PI programmes, design distance learning programmes, as also to enable speedy communication with the Ministry officials and the stakeholders. Once installed, the facility will find many uses to make the service indispensable. Apart from two sponsored programmes, 24 international training programmes (announced) had been conducted. Besides, two international B2B projects were undertaken for Kenya and Nepal, the former of which has resulted in an MoU. Also, we have been on enlarging our spread in collaboration with like-minded organisations in public as well as private sectors in the country, as also with international organisations. Already we have made some MoUs in this direction. The collaboration involves working together in training, research and consulting areas and sharing of the fruits of knowledge. We are envisaging the introduction of different streams of formal education programmes in MSME. Our long-time endeavour of MSME University has received a provisional approval from the Ministry, to prepare and submit the project report. The work is underway. Our RCTP was given the responsibility of managing the Traditional Paintings pavilion of the State Gallery during the recent International Bio-diversity Conference. Pleased with this performance, the RCTP has been given the mandate of managing the Traditional Paintings section for the rest of the year. For the first time in the history of the Institute, promotions have been made in the senior-most academic posts of directors. After a long interval of 25 years, recruitments have been made to academic posts and new faculty members (2) and associate faculty members (3) have been appointed. This enhances the core strength of the Institute and builds up its capacity to take more projects. Also for the first time in the Institute’s history, ni-msme now has a female Chief Administrative Officer, and a female Registrar. Passing through the Golden Jubilee year, this is good tidings. This year, in tune with the endeavour of the Union government, a committee has been constituted to promote increased use of Rajbhasha in all communications of the Institute. Looking at this gamut of activities, I think 2012 has been a satisfactory year. I hope 2013 will be more dynamic, more productive and more interesting in every way for all of us. I sincerely thank the officials of MSME Ministry and all the stake holders, best complements to the ni-msme family members for their relentless efforts and wish a happy and happening year 2013.
