Bike Around the Bay is a fully supported two-day, 170-mile bicycle ride around that showcases the natural beauty of Galveston Bay and benefits the Galveston Bay Foundation.

Now in its tenth year, Bike Around the Bay began with the goal of bringing people together from all over to see and experience Galveston Bay. Many people are unaware of the rich ecological diversity so close to , so this event was designed to bring awareness to its importance. For companies, Bike Around the Bay has proven to be a solid investment. The Numbers: Bike Around the Bay is one of the fastest growing cycling events in Texas, more than doubling from 480 riders in 2009 to 1,148 riders in 2015. The majority (92.5 percent) of riders responding to a 2015 post-event survey stated that Bike Around the Bay was the “Best of Them All” or a “Top Ride” compared to others. In addition, 99 percent of riders said they would consider participating in Bike Around the Bay again and 97.5 percent said they would encourage other cyclists to participate.

The majority of Bike Around the Bay riders are upwardly mobile, with 88 percent having a bachelor’s or advanced degree and 66 percent have a household income of $75,000 or higher, with 23 per- cent higher than $200,000. Most riders (70 percent) come from the area, traveling up to 50 miles to participate in Bike Around the Bay.

The mission of the Foundation is to preserve, protect, and enhance the natural resources of the Galveston Bay estuarine system and its tributaries for present users and for posterity. Its programs in advocacy, conservation, education, and research strive to ensure that Galveston Bay remains a beautiful and productive place for generations to come.

GBF’s community outreach and education programs provide science-based education and activities focused on Galveston Bay.
